That's concerning. I hoped that the end user would have more control over who to fix, not the devs. If it had worked as advertised, I had planned to fix a bunch of niggers, mutts and ugly, mannish women in games into aesthetically pleasing members of the White race.

Not mentioned: It literally requires you have a second GPU dedicated to AI to do this. (Edit: Two $3500 GPUs, at that. 5090s are nearly $4000 now and rising.)

The meme has already reached critical status (read: risk averse corporations are in on it). Literally everyone hates this except the AI Bros and maybe Nvidia stockholders.

God, I hate modern vidya so much. They insist on adding these completely unnecessary and pointless additions to game engines that do nothing but demand you have state of the line hardware to run them. What is the point of this? vidya characters looks slightly more "realistic"? Who gives a fuck. Gameplay and story for AAA games have stagnated since 2015 and the only improvements we see are miniscule graphical iterations.

If I had to guess this was probably some last ditch effort by the jeet interns because all of the billions of dollars they spent throwing into "AI research" has so far returned 0 practical revenue to the company. They are really desperate to convince people that nuh uh AI technology good saar very advance technology saar and that nuh uh all of the money we've spent on it was well worth it saar!

The graphical arms race should have died years ago and developers should have focused on gameplay. You could have a game look absolutely stunning, but it means fuck all if the gameplay is garbage.

I'm not opposed to neural rendering, but it's obvious Nvidia hasn't allowed enough developers the creative control they need and it doesn't have NPBR workflows. I remember something called Barracuda that Unity was experimenting with in 2019 that let you train a GAN for NPBR rendering, but DLSS5 doesn't seem to have even the ability to fine tune it to a specific style or game.

What I love about this whole Nvidia thing is that Digital Foundry is finally eating shit.
I went to this other site to see the dislikes:
56.1 k dislikes
Top comments are all shitting on DF. Good.

Remember when they went over the Perfect Dark "gameplay trailer" and didn't realize for one second that this was fake gameplay?
For those that forgot, the Perfect Dark reboot got cancelled in july 2025, and there were reports that the gameplay trainer was 100% pre-rendered footage. Somehow these supposed experts didn't notice.

Get ready for a smug response on the next DF Direct, specially from that faggot Alex, he seems to slurp NVidia cock the most.

A bit of interesting fallout
[Replying to Digital Foundry]: Appreciate your excitement and analysis of the new DLSS 5 lighting here. This is a very early look, and our art teams will be further adjusting the lighting and final effect to look the way we think works best for each game. This will all be under our artists’ control, and totally optional for players.
Totally optional
In other words, they read the backlash. They probably don't actually care, but they're at least aware.

The shitting on Nvidia continues.

A second GPU needed? INB4 Nvidia’s plan is to use dlss5 users as a remote for lease ai farm. See you all in 5 to 8 years for the class action lawsuit.
A second, dedicated 5090 needed. So ~$8500 worth of video cards with current market prices AND a shitload of RAM (~$950) and a ~1200W PSU or thereabouts, and those prices are STILL accelerating with no end in sight. About $10,000 worth of computer, all told.

It's clear they expect one of the following to occur:
  • Moore's Law to make 5090 tier performance cheap enough that a 5090 tier NPU (AI dedicated GPU) is a no brainer upsell for the average gamer (~$250-500)
  • Some sort of absurd accelerant in the AI space that will make this run efficiently on a CPU or alongside existent GPU hardware in the next year or so
  • Every user to move to cloud based gaming where they can rent this to you at the low low cost of $29/month forever
Basically, long term the techbros appear to be betting on reaching the Singularity, the transhumanist rapture of the nerds, where technological advancement reaches an infinite asymptote. (This is an entire other thread in and of itself, but basically, they're hoping to hit a point where they can have the computer make a better computer, and then have this better computer make an even better computer. Repeat this infinitely and you get an infinitely powerful computer that's the same as magic.)

They will either do so in the next 5-10 years, creating AGI (Artificial General Intelligence, aka an actual AI) then ASI (Artificial Super Intelligence, an AGI smarter than humans) and replacing all of us with robots... or they will destroy the world's economy with no survivors.

More and more I'm starting to subscribe to the theory that they are deliberately trying to make PCs unaffordable for the average normie so they can force everyone to shift to the monthly pay to rent subscription model.

You will eat the bugs and own nothing and be happy.

The overall tone of the keynote outside of the 5 second DLSS / Gamer portion was pretty bleak. They showed simulations of humanoid robots doing any and all unskilled labor and Jensen closes it out with an AI slop music video of him playing harmonica surrounded by his robots. Seriously grim stuff.

I suspect that yes, that is part of it. It hits a lot of wins for them:
  • For the ones with the Messiah Complex, it lets them save the planet! All those personal PCs are wasting power and resources when they're not in use, better to share them like good communists.
  • For the TechBros, it sets up an infinite money cheat. No more selling a piece of hardware to a single person, with the prices being affected by market forces and all that insanity. Not when you can sell it to yourself then rent it to thousands of cloud customers forever.
  • For the lefty types, it permanently kills the chances of a Kiwi Farms or a 4chan ever appearing again, since if anyone gets uppity creating memes to make fun of Newsom or Chelsea Clinton or who object to the next Gene Therapy or insane law, they just turn their VDI access off and they go the fuck away forever.
  • For the corpofags, it consolidates data collection and removes any and all hints of privacy. Everything you'll do on your "computer" is actually on a cloud server, watched 24x7 by scraper bots.
It's literally win win win win for the most evil assholes on the planet. Even more of a bonus if they DO get their robotic workforce and can shove us all in 15 minute cities to slowly die out.

It gets even worse with the choice of games they picked to showcase this. RE:9 is ok, a good choice. Topical. Looks like shit of course but at least it shows off the tech well with current games. Hogwarts Legacy? That shit is already old, do we not have other better games like that coming out? STARFIELD? FUCKING STARFIELD? Who even is playing Starfield still? Fallout New Vegas has more players and that shit is 90% pirate installs only some 10% are tracked.
I think those are just good graphics benchmarks, like how I'd constantly see Rise of Tomb Raider in benchmarks despite not hearing anyone ever play it.

I am certain that these Videogames companies and Nvidia are colluding together to force people to buy higher end GPUs by making the videogame companies create their videogames and have them have bad optimization and ultraphotorealistic graphics and unnecessary tiny visual details and animations that nobody asked for.

I started forming this conspiracy after I saw about how the Red Dead Redemption 2 developers literally animated the balls of horses to rise or drop depending on the temperature of the environment for the sake of "realism" or something.
