Definitely a meme and it originates from, you guessed it, /a/. It spreads to entire 4chan with their own characters for more than a decade if I remembered correctly. And if it's isn't too obvious to you, yes, nearly all did it ironically (and if not, then most of those are very good at hiding the fact). In fact, they usually make an event for it annually for each sub, not just /vt/.

Edit: Just a slight tip. If you want contents that are unironic, Reddit is your better bet (especially sub like r/waifuism).

To be frank, of Holomyth, she often comes across as the only one who isn't really playing a character, just herself.

Guess that makes her the most "legit" in my eyes, and probably my favourite of Holomyth.

A lot of Gura's fans I think were carryovers from when her pre-Hololive days as Senzawa. As such she tends to draw in a lot of what I like to refer to as the "Twitch chat" crowd, ie. faggots as you might call them.

I'd doubt it, unless you have a very good (and probably niche) gimmick.
I could see it working in a couple of communities, mostly fringe political ones.

Also you have to actually be funny or have some talent, you actually need to bring life to that lifeless 3D model so that people will actually simp for you.
