  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
QRD? Are gifs and/or weebums going to be automatically converted or something?

No. I'm fairly sure this entire thing is literally just about adding support for them so you may upload them if you wish. Nobody will have to convert anything unless it is uploaded as a WebM because that person chose to do it; nobody will have to convert all images to WebM in order to upload: it's just an option.

anything is possible but we are banned from updating xenforo because the britcuck faggots that own it got cried at. i'd rather invest my time in anything else.
Forgive me for the potentially silly question but I don’t quite get the rationale behind this. Unless you’re not planning to operate the site for much longer or you are planning to migrate it.

Do you have any plans to migrate to a different platform? There’s a risk that any other software provider will pull the plug on you the same way, due to mean emails, so it’s potentially futile.

So, customising the current instance with any improvements is time well spent? Since you’re stuck with it indefinitely? Any improvements you make is for the sole benefit of your site. You’re not helping Xenforo with it. So the fact that they were asshats to you shouldn’t stop you wanting to improve the KF instance 🤔

>be Jewgle
>create an entirely new media format
>don't even bother releasing a codec for the most popular OS on the market - Windows
>meaning the overwhelming majority of people won't be able to view them in Photo Viewer and will have no thumbnail support
>wonder why people hate it
>"Alright, fuck it, have your precious fucking codec"
>release a codec for Windows
>"Oopsy-woopsy, our new diversity hires couldn't figure out how to make animated Web Pee show in Photo Viewer"
>release it anyway, with little to no fanfare, meaning the overwhelming majority of people won't even know that it exists
>"Hurr-durr why do people hate Web Pee so much?"

Gee, I can't imagine why.

Dear Leader is going to make his own forum software from the ground up.

There are two kinds of people who hate webp - autists who're unhealthily hyperfixated on the ultra-fine nuances of tech standards, and discord trannies who're mildly inconvenienced by not being able to copy image directly from their discord window.
Sure, if you're only saving memes and disposable garbage, file format does not make much of a difference. But if you're actually designing something, where image quality is somewhat essential, the second someone converts it to webp, it's over!

If I quickly make a random PNG, like this:
1000023348.png
I can change the white background easily and the shittiest result I'm able to achieve is this:
1000023350.png
If I convert it to WEBP before changing it, look at all this extra garbage and smearing. All those pixels, were a different shade of white:
1000023351.png

I do not use KiwiFarms as a design portfolio website, so I don't care what format is used here. This is just an example of why that take would get you crucified among designers and artists. Imagine spending tens of hours drawing something, you upload it to some retarded social media site, that uses an incorrect resizing algorithm and converts it to WEBP afterwards, now it's been smeared and distorted two times and looks far from your original vision.

Some of these sites even manage to smear it across transparent background - something developers should actually be hanged for doing.
