Wicked. - Based on the musical.

Yeah, this looks retarded. Never saw the musical but I read the book years and years back. Remember it being full of gross, deviant fetish fuel sex scenes, Glinda being a 13 year old Mean Girl, the witch being a poor misunderstood dork who dundunuffins and her sister being turned into the equivalent of a Bible thumping Christian fundie.

Hard pass

AND YOU WON'T LET ME DOWN.

Imagine Blacking the Wicked Witch of the West.
They didn't black her up, she's quite clearly GREEN. The real problem is, none of the people playing her are Margaret Hamilton. It's just not really a character that I've ever liked deconstructed into this insecure schoolgirl when the original book and particularly the film version was such a force of nature in a fantasy world that was defined by how little the audience knew about it.

It looks a bit bland if I'm honest, though the production design is impressive. I don't really buy Cappuccino Grande as Glinda. Also, does Michelle Yeoh decline any roles she offered?

I'm wondering if the reason the cast a black actress as Elphiba is a black person looks better in the green make up.

Zoe Saldana, who plays Gamora, someone else with green skin is black.

I'm just excited to finally see the first woman of color represented as the Wicked Witch of the West. This is a barrier every Black person should be excited to see finally broken. On behalf of Black Americans, I thank you, Hollywood!

Not to mention the countless Orion Slave girl cosplays (or Twi’leks for Star Wars fans), I think it’s safe to say white girls look fine in green skin (“greenface” if you will).

It's already a musical. Why does the Generic Hollywood Action/Adventure Score that plays through 70% of the trailer not even attempt to reference any of the wide array of material that is already available? Stephen Schwartz already did all of the heavy lifting in establishing the leitmotifs and themes when he wrote the (very successful) show. Even when Les Miserables (2012) wanted to introduce new material to make it eligible for more Oscars, a lot of what was created was a natural extension of the original show.

The scenes are bright, which is nice. But that is about all I can say nicely. That riff that Elphaba hits at the end of Defying Gravity is supposed to sound good, not like the gutteral yell that whatever her name is does. You can look up on YouTube so many well done Defying Gravity riffs and they're all better than this.

Notice anything missing from the trailer for this MUSICAL?

Yeah, they don't show anybody singing.

That's because musicals are notorious for flopping hard when they put them in movie theatres, so they're trying to trick you into thinking you'll be going to see a movie, and not a musical.

Return to Oz is a good almost sequel. The thing that makes the Wizard of Oz to me is the effects and costumes along with the simple story. I like The Wiz, too. It’s goofy and preachy, but it’s unique in trying to adapt the Wizard of Oz despite not really getting it.

Wicked is not interesting. The whole point of Wizard of Oz with Dorothy was literally getting dropped in a strange and hostile world and trying to get home. Villain protagonist rarely works.

Wait the Scarecrow was the Wicked Witches lover in Wicked? He fucking brings a revolver when going with Dorothy to kill her.
