I'm at college to be a music therapist. The entire purpose of this profession is to help anyone - everyone - especially those that are not, as it is so eloquently put, "normalfags". Kids with autism. Adults in the psych ward. People in hospitals or hospice. Elderly people, especially those with dementia. People with physical disabilities.

My entire life is going to revolve around hopefully being a helpful person.

And I can say right now that I'd have absolutely no problem doing music therapy with a wizard. (Only after I graduate, though.) But here's the thing: I can't know who might need help if they're ... not doing anything. If you're walking down the street staring straight ahead I won't assume anything of it because if you don't look miserable I can't fucking tell. You've definately got an admirable job ahead of you. I think the main problem with trying to find depressed people is that when they're out and about they try to make it look like everything's fine. Unless they come to you, you have to know a depressed person to figure out if they need help. Without help they end up in a vicious cycle of depression leading to isolation that causes more depression and greater isolation.

Then they find "support groups" (ie wizardchan) who say it's ok and everyone else is a faggot. This obviousely damages them more and makes it even less likely they'll seek out help. They may not even like having no friends and being isolated but eventually wizardchan tricks them into thinking it's the only way to be. I even think it can get so bad that, after a while, even if a "wizard" wants to change they may not even know how to go out and make friends at all.

I'm sort of a nerd but also am pretty much classified as one of those evil alpha males wizards and loveshies hate so much (it's true you can be both!) so I don't know how much my opinion counts.
