We live in uncertain times, like our forefathers Before us. Despite world at large being so degenerate and ass backwards, I'd like to ask this with nuanced points.

For example would you sacrifice personal comfort, work a little and give something to a fellow countrymen in need?
Let's say fresh set of clothes, food, coffee and shelter to someone in crisis, for example your house is far away from flooded arras. Would you allow people wait for rescue and relief effort.

Would you sacrifice your health or suffer prolonged pain for those you love, donating kidney or give bone marrow donation for leukemia?

Would you sacrifice money or resources if someone you know would rebuild their lives after they hit rock bottom?

Would you sacrifice your life for sake for ones that you are closest to, taking a bullet to save lives? Using your body as a shield?

A lot of people talk boatloads of shit to virtue signal or run away like a low trust society bugmen?

Ideally we'd be willing to help others, as well as ourselves. To abide by that Christian ideal of self-sacrifice. Yet, I fear in my case that I'm far too selfish, or at least on the cusp of being so. Much of my life has been lived in service to myself, though I hope that in time such might change, as I broaden my understanding of the world and the people in it.

The only way I could say yes for certain is if I'm forced to confront any of the scenarios you just mentioned. Probably not the answer you're hoping to hear, but as the adage goes, actions speak louder than words.

I fear I am far too selfish in those trying times. But I think it may be completely worth it to sacrifice the meaningless suffering for the more meaningful way of life. Though it's something not thought of at first. But these conveniences don't help much, if not made us weaker and dependent. It appears to me humanity wasn't built to thrive on these things. But I can say at least a more meaningful suffering is more rewarding.

"Countrymen?" What country is that, exactly? I'd sacrifice for my close family (most of them anyway), best friend, and practically no one else. Don't be a sucker.

edit: and for Null but that goes without saying

Husband, parent, and especially children, I would die for. Without a moments hesitation
Everyone else is dependent on situation. My country only if they stop hating me. I have seen a lot of this kind of thing play out and people get hurt, money is wasted and never repaid, or spent on drugs and booze or wasted.
I offered a family member something almost new and quite expensive to replace something he damaged while drunk once, and he had the cheek to tell me nah, wasn’t fancy enough, but he’d take the new value in cash. That kind of thing puts you right off.
