Yeah, a lot of mobile games are wiped sooner or later. iOS is really bad about it, since you can't even sideload something that's removed. Android's better, but not by much, with how both OSes get updates that can just nuke games and apps, and the developer won't get compensated for having to update it or anything. As for downloaded games, I don’t want to just say “get with the times, grandpa” because there are genuine concerns, but they’re extremely rare and are no cause for concern 99.999% of the time. The only example of digital purchases being taken away that I’ve ever gone through is for some old iPhone apps.
The marketplaces for the PS3, PSP, PSVita, 360, Wii, Wii U, DSi, and 3DS are gone now, but I think you can still redownload your games on all of them. But then again, if you're still interested in older systems, the hacking scene's generally mature by the time store closures happen, so you can just install pirated versions of your games instead. Sometimes it becomes even easier to install those over official means. At least with discs and cartridges, you don't need to worry about drive space, and you can resell them if you're done. Digital games just leaves you with a redundant product. It's not like Steam, where you get cloud saves and easy installs.
Speaking of digital purchases being taken away, it's not a purchase per-say, but I lost my copy of PT because of a really, really unfortunate accident where I was reaching behind my TV for something, and accidentally held the capacitive power button on my PS4, which somehow corrupted the entire hard drive. Lost all my saves, too.
