Youtube General thread (formerly Youtube Censorship discussion thread)

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Ever since YouTube started recommending low-views videos, it’s mostly been misses rather than hits. But once in a while it gives me gold like this guy:
“To be honest I’d rather play Sonic ‘06 than with this crap!”
“If you are going of purchase one of these sets, save your money for something else… buy a Star Wars set—dare I say that.”

I opened a video in a private window (I didn't want the video to fuck up my recommendations) and saw this horrendous new UI they're A/B testing.

This looks genuinely awful! Who even approved this shit?

Edit: I found a better video to demonstrate this monstrosity.

Making UI this bad should be a crime.

Google has changed the ui throughout the years. people hate it. Then come to endure it. And then the cycle starts over when google does it again.

Hate youtube shorts with a fiery passion. Whoever came up with those is a sadist, even if they can be filtered out with extensions. It just reeks of dystopian, terminal corporate brainrot. View attachment 7323510

it was literally done to compete with social media platforms like Instagram and especially Tiktok and we all know how brainrottingly awful they are, especially the latter.

Its just chasing trends. Bad trends at that.

For one second I thought you meant the AI art (which is awful) but yes, the UI is somehow even worse.

Minor problem but I have no idea why it's even a thing. I'll be watching a video, then click back to the sub feed because I lost intrest, and it will pop up a mini player that keeps playing the video I exited. Also, some moron set it up so that if you browse over a thumbnail, and it starts playing, it will show in your watch history, even though you never clicked it. I'm wondering if this isn't a way to push numbers to advertisers, by showing videos you didn't watch as being watched, thus inflating view count.

I HATE ROUNDED CORNERS I HATE ROUNDED CORNERS I HATE ROUNDED CORNERS I HATE ROUNDED CORNERS I HATE ROUNDED CORNERS

At the rate UI design seems to be going absolutely every single thing is going to have rounded corners. The videos themselves are actually already rounded off at the corners unless you use a script to get rid of them. Whoever thought this was a good idea to spread these things needs to be put under a guillotine.

I wish they would finally fix keyboard shortcuts for arrow keys. It's driving me nuts.

- left/right: skips 5 seconds back/forward
- up/down: adjusts volume 5% up/down, BUT ALSO SKIPS 5 SECONDS BACK/FORWARD unless the video is fullscreen or in normal mode after being "selected" with a mouse click

Just make up/down ALWAYS change volume regardless of any other factors, Jesus H. Christ.

I could handle some level of BS change as long as it's for aesthetics, but moving the fucking volume slider to the far right should be charged with a death sentence.

You'd think they would've hit bedrock by now, but no, somehow the floor keeps getting lower

Normally they would have but Google has cemented a monopoly as any alternatives either arent there yet, lack content, are actively boycotted by Google, have a hard time getting the attention of mainstream internet users or all of the above.

Thanks to this artificial situation that they made, they know altho they may lose non mainstream autists like us, they will have the mainstream normies because normies will always prefer to go with the option with least amount of effort and most convenience, even it comes with a cost to their liberties.

Uhm like, this new UI is an improvement over the site? 💅

It doesn't show that UGLY black gradient for the video controls, and separates each one in its own bubble like you would see in the preferred device: mobile!

The old design (yuck!) was sooooo not 2025, oh-my-god!
* * * * *

Outside of jokes, it's horrible and catered towards the average TikTok brainshit zoomer/mobile user/Galaxy Gas enjoyer.

To be fair, this guy and the style of video feel refreshingly old fashion so I prefer these recommendations over corporate slop

The best extension I know is Tweaks for Youtube (Firefox / Chrome), it has a ton of features, including forcing keybinds to behave (manually set the keybind in the extension)
I'll give it a shot. I'm currently using Improve Youtube for Firefox and while it has some neat improvements, it unfortunately doesn't fix the duplicate binds issue.
