Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Why isn’t that really big news. This fucking asshole just admitted that Covid probably will never go away.
We always knew that. It has an animal reservoir. We could cure every human living today, and tomorrow a bat pisses on someone's face and we start over again.
The only human disease we've eradicated is smallpox, because it has no animal reservoir. We've come close to eradicating polio, but it's still endemic in Afghanistan and Pakistan. That might actually be the CIA's fault, but I think the locals share at least part of the blame.

Time to buy stocks.
not realy, the market is still way to high and the stock that will come out on top of the crisis is up and not down.

Jimmy Carter also killed some kind of Worm but thats was only a problem in africa since the rest of the world invented shoes a couple of thousand years ago.

Unfortunately having that Ivy League degree on your resume opens so many doors that the actual education itself is just a nice to have and real value lies in a piece of paper. The reason these schools don't need to lower tuition is because they know these students studied their butts of in high school and this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for them. Plus what is the alternative? The opportunity cost is too high especially if you take a gap year. Finding a job right now to fill that year isn't exactly a cake walk and for example Wharton is charging $8000 just for a deferment. Might as well get it over with and have the university title on your resume.
I knew someone who had a bachelors from Harvard in Architecture. He was living in an apartment shared with 10 other people and working as a dishwasher at some restaurant. Eventually he moved out into the country and started working for his girlfriend's father doing carpentry framing houses.

When he was at Harvard he apparently didn't really network and kept to himself, so all Harvard gave him was an extremely expensive piece of paper to wipe his ass with. You're not paying ivy league tuition because of the quality of education, you're paying for the networking opportunities.

These people piss me off so damn much, especially the Science Cultists. They spew their bullshit they absorbed from listening to the media and if you counter with actual studies or even evidence, it rolls off of them like water off a duck's back. If your magic talisman masks work so damn well, why is California having the same "huge spike" everyone else is? Why isn't South Dakota suffering? Why is Georgia fine? Why are the Japanese seeing an increase in cases? Why are we letting the fucking Swedes have one more thing they can be insufferably arrogant about?

I don't get too mad at people though, just the people who wear them in their cars, alone. It is a good way to know which cars to give a wide berth.

If anyone thinks that science hasn’t been corrupted, then they’re naive. These people are in a cult and they will do anything to advance that narrative. They will say someone with a death fromgunshot wound is a coronavirus death, they will say a slip and fall is, and a motorcycle death is. Certain parts of science are censored if they do not fit certain narratives. The professors who found no bias in policing made an apology because they didn’t want their paper to be used against social justice, it’s insane.

It's very obviously corrupted, but academia always is. Got to get that sweet grant money. I posted a link yesterday which has links to actual studies that used HCQ against COVID, I believe the count is around 60, the majority of which show that it does work early on and as a prophylactic, when combined with zinc and an antibiotic. There's a point after which it doesn't work and it doesn't do much by itself. Even if you give this to the cultists, they'll still tell you The Science says it doesn't work. Even if you link them to the 2005 study from Fauci's own organization that shows its effectiveness against coronaviruses.

But those of us who change our views based on actual emerging research, you know how science actually works, we're the crazy cultists and retards.

They’ll do anything to virtue signal. Their entire existence and value is based on how much more “woke” they are than anyone else. Just imagine how much better our world could be if we had purged social justice and post modernism from universities before it spread. There would be more attractive women at least.

And that's all it is. Have to be seen "caring" about others by wearing a mask. It's for everyone else's good, not because they're a self-centered virtue signaler.

Also, I was a teen in the 90s. I miss thin girls in jeans that fit right.

Why isn’t that really big news. This fucking asshole just admitted that Covid probably will never go away. What’s the point of this bullshit then? We destroyed the economy and fucked up millions of people’s lives for what? A few months more for grandma to live in misery at a nursing home with no visitors or activities before the coof eventually gets her? This is some 1776 level shit here, fuck every single governor who locked down and continues to lockdown. Why has no one followed up on this and asked why the lockdowns or masks are necessary or asked Fauci why it was a better idea to not adopt Sweden’s model.

For what? To make the "i fucking wuv science" types feel superior to you.

The common cold likely began as a coronavirus much like this. After thousands of years, it's just something we deal with. Sometimes it kills people, but usually it doesn't and we're fine. It was never going to "go away" even with vaccinations, so I'm not sure why they went with this "lockdown until normalcy" while knowing there wouldn't ever be a pre-covid normalcy (meaning life without it existing at all). It's such an obvious political and economic move to hurt people and the current government that it's enough to make your blood boil. Just look at how they've moved the lockdown goal posts. At first it was to keep hospitals clear and assess the damage while having more info, then it was to prevent hospital overflow, now it's...what? To prevent the possibility of people getting sick? What about all the other things lockdowns put you at risk for? Public health isn't a zero sum game—there are points when extended barricading of people in their homes actually causes more damage to themselves and society as a whole than just getting sick would.
Holy shit guys I just realized something. How much do you want to bet that this whole scenario is going to lead to more people turning down the flu vaccine on top of everything else?
Think about it. The fact that the common cold is itself a coronavirus is starting to become common knowledge, and we don't vaccinate for that shit. People also seem to be understanding more about the flu. This is actually the first year I've seen people spontaneously bringing up the fact that it has multiple strains, before now that just never came up.
Furthermore, regardless of how you personally feel about the flu vaccine, if fewer people get it each year, that figure is going to be used by politicians one way or another.

Whitmer vetoes GOP-backed bill to house nursing home coronavirus patients in separate facilities
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Friday vetoed legislation that would have directed COVID-19 patients to dedicated facilities instead of nursing homes with uninfected patients.

The legislation was backed by Republican lawmakers critical of Whitmer’s handling of nursing home response in the early days of the pandemic.

In a statement, Whitmer said Senate Bill 956 would be harmful to nursing home residents and other COVID-19 patients.

“Senate Bill 956 is nothing more than a political game that would relocate vulnerable seniors without any requirement for consent, doctor’s approval, or notification to patients and their families,” she said. “It’s time for the Republican legislature to get serious about protecting our most vulnerable and addressing the public health and economic crisis faced by our state.”

Senate Bill 956 would have required the state to inspect and designate one dedicated facility for coronavirus-positive patients in each of the state’s eight health care regions by Sept. 1.

After that, a hospital that determines a positive patient who isn’t a nursing home resident and is ineligible for hospitalization would need to transfer the person to either a dedicated facility or a field hospital.

A person who had tested positive couldn’t be transferred to a nursing home until recovered. Nursing home residents who contract coronavirus would need to be moved to a physically separate building or to the COVID-specific facility the state had designated.

Currently, the state has designated regional hubs that can either be separate facilities or separate units within nursing facilities to house COVID patients needing long-term care, but not hospitalization.

Whitmer’s critics in the legislature have said the administration’s policy put vulnerable nursing home populations at risk of contracting the disease.

“I’m still appalled that this happened,” Sen. Peter Lucido, the bill’s sponsor, said on the Senate floor in June. “For some yet unknown reason, state officials made these decisions to bring COVID-19 patients into facilities with disastrous results.”

In a statement following the veto, Lucido said he was disappointed by the decision to veto “this extremely important and commonsense legislation.”

“Politics should not prevail over the health and safety of our seniors and health care workers, and I urge my colleagues in the Senate and House to consider passing a veto override,” he said. “We owe this to our citizens, especially the seniors and vulnerable members of our communities who cannot speak for themselves.”

The coronavirus has, in Michigan and elsewhere, particularly affected elderly populations. According to data released by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services last month, 34% of COVID-19 deaths in Michigan are linked to nursing homes.
It sure looks like she has been and still is trying to kill off as many elderly as possible. Maybe just to juice the death stats, which have long been flagging? Maybe to kill off potential Trump voters? Why so evil?

Only 34%? I expected worse. Nursing home deaths make up about 70% of Ohio's total deaths. It's only about two thousand people, but still.

Isn't bitching about gentrification usually just code for being mad that white people are moving into the area?
No, bitching about gentrification is bitching about any and every race taking over low income areas period. It's a very common trend where artists and musicians move into low income areas because the arts don't pay shit unless you hit it big. Then, well off cunts who have zero talents but want to be cool take over those areas thus forcing out the very creatives they seek to ingratiate themselves with. After this happens, eventually the neighborhood falls into disrepair as the people they flocked to were forced out and slowly the gentrified neighborhood loses its appeal. I've watched this happen in several cities. It's not an instant thing but it's visible enough that even south park did a mini ark about this shit.

If you want an interesting case study on this, look at the housing market in LA where high rises are getting thrown up everywhere by rich chinese investors but many of them stand almost entirely empty because people either can't afford to live in them or don't want to because they're no longer in a desirable neighborhood.

Meanwhile, as noted in another thread, the small businesses which crop up around college campuses (coffee shops, bars, restaurants, book stores, etc.) are about to get fucked by less students around.

This post was the worst prophecy ever - I've been frequenting a (family-owned) restaurant in a university neighbourhood for a decade now and they've announced that they're shuttering permanently because the campus has been "remote learning" since March and will do so until at least till the end of the calendar year. Fuck fake China virus in the goddamn pussy.

Is it though? I don't disagree with you about the actual definition about the word 'gentrification', but the way it's used in a contemporary sense always seems to be heavily implied that it's about white people. The same way that 'sexism' is generally aimed at men or 'racism' is implied to be a white thing (to the point where many people, including whites say 'reverse racism' when it's a brown/black person doing the racist thing).

We have this here in Canada too, particularly on the west coast of course like the LA situation.
