Are they .rar files? The only time I've had this problem (neither 7z, unzip, LXQt File Archiver could extract them on Lubuntu) was with .rar files...

No, but I use either tar, or unzip depending on the format. I don't use 7zip. Meanwhile people being excited about xlibre.
