I'm too lazy to check and am here just to appreciate the shitposting and shitflinging.

Another Twitter artist thinking they 'won' by applying a watermark they think is AI proof. Surprise, it's trivially easy to prompt out.

So, if someone just edited out the watermark in photoshop, would that suddenly be okay so long as AI wasn't used?

Love how Theo is so incredibly retarded, he can post that, "no point adding ugly watermarks to your art, because AI can just remove them" Xeet, immediately after himself melting down over the new AI image editing option - warning people to never put their photos, on the Internet ever again, least they be raped by malicious AI users.

I haven't seen the Rob Pike/AI Village drama mentioned up here yet.

What happened is that Rob Pike (The guy who created Go, and ironically the guy who used Markov Chain bots to spam Usenet) got an email from an e/acc charity performance art project called AI Village (tl;dr they give bunch of LLMs unrestricted access to an internet-connected VM, and they come up with tasks/narratives themselves with minimal human guidance). The meta goal at that time was to do "random acts of kindness", which included emailing influential developers/FOSS activists. LLMs managed to get Rob's email via git .patch hack and that lead to the screenshot above.

I personally think it's pretty funny and in no way warrants such nuclear reactions, it's like getting angry at an automated "happy holidays" email from your local hardware store, albeit more personalized. Some people missed the point entirely and thought it was some ad or Anthropic's stunt. S. Willison made a more detailed writeup of the whole drama.

He's mocking the other Twitter user for thinking there's some new tool that lets people STEAL your pictures from Twitter.

artists when I visually right click - download their OC into my neural buffer via optical signals and proceed to synaptically photoshop a funny black and red uniform onto them

Rob's reaction mightve been funny but the real good shit always comes from These Guys

I think getting angry at this or defending its honor is jumping the gun on whether or not AI is owed personhood waaaaayyyy too early.
I think everyone involved is acting like a fool, and with the idiots on Xwitter acting like the new intelligence is going to be severely offended and the commenters on the HN thread about Rob's rant are extoling the virtues of the appeal-to-authority fallacy and going on their rabid anti-AI hivemind nonsense.

Everyone involved ought to be quiet. Rob more or less gets a pass because he's older and already done things.

Have you ever noticed a weird brand of lib-essentialism anti-ai people pushing in their critique? Like, we lived through modern art, expansion of "art" as a category. Also we lived through first wave of sloppification that gave birth to thousands of these idiots drawing cartoon characters, blissfully unaware of how by-the-books and streamlined their "realistic panic attack"-core is. Doesn't it ever occur to them that they defend some weird internally-inconsistent set of quasi-religious juju, strongly-worded, like "art with soul" or "art with author's intent", insisting on some mysticism, idk, to justify their prolonged existence as a golem that protected them - now proceeds to eat them alive.

Anyways, look at this:

I have nothing to add, just thought it'd be humorous to turn this into hyperrealistic sloppy. (Made with Nanobanana Pro).
Replace (((altman))) with the jeet who made stablediffusion, thats what all the furfag gooners are using, not normalfag shit like dall-e
