Its kino footage but economically horrible. Someone said its like using a Ferrari to take out a bicycle. Russia's idea of strapping old R-60s onto drones is a decent workaround since they have some old stock lying around but using a new western air-to-air missile against a $1000 drone is dumb.
This is what I expected. Russia may have a secret guarded communications but it may require special devices, clunkier communication equipment and limited access. Compare that to a cellphone, which are ubiquitous using whatsapp or telegram etc and can fit in your pocket. Its easier to coordinate smaller operations with cell phones using Starlink versus whatever special, stuff Russia has. Other conventional warfare methods have been thrown out the window during this war to the point where horses are seriously being used, and it makes sense why loosing starlink is such a blow to both sides.
Yes, the coming war with Iran can be lost by USA and Israel simply by defending a carrier group against an attack by drones. US learned this while defending against Yemen. If it is true that an F18 fell overboard during an evasion manouever.
In this scenario I postulate there is a second worth though. It gives operational experience in operating the equipment in wartime conditions. I am saying shooting down the drone with air to air missile is cheaper than doing a training run with an air ot air missile and a fake target drone. So there is that.
