The Not Interested and Do Not Recommend options DO work, however you need to be really, really, really, really autistic about it. NI/DNR every video for a topic for a few days and remove any related video from you watch history as well (though now that I write this down, it is not impossible that this is the ONLY thing that actually helps...). I haven't gotten an LTT recommendation for years at this point and I watch a bunch of other tech channels.

For me the do not recommend work perfectly fine, what I found myself is that it will sometimes disable itself and start recommending the channel again, so far I clicked it on the LTT channel when the second GN drama and it hasn't recommended me any more videos, although I'd have to say, it took a while because he has like 10 different channels that keep being recommended all the time.
One thing I don't seem to be able to turn off are bicycle videos, I watch a lot of motorcycle videos and it seems because everyone call them bikes too, yt algorithm just thinks motorcycles and bicycles are the same thing, or my phone is spying me when my father starts speaking about the current bicycle tour and starts recommending them again.

I have a similar issue with videos made by Boomer and Gen X dudes who do show-and-tell videos about the latest vinyl records or CDs they've bought. I don't need to hear some greybeard sperging for 25 minutes over finding some obscure Azerbaijani psych rock album released in 1968 in a thrift store for 50 cents without playing a single fucking note of said album.

About the only nice thing I can say about these videos is that they're not AI slop.

I suspect this is because one of the few things YT is really good for is discovering old music in obscure genres by obscure artists from obscure countries, and because I use YT like this and The Algorithm has successfully detected that I'm an old fart, I want to watch other old farts talking about something I'd much rather be listening to.

Funnily enough he's got vids where he goes into dodgy phone shops to see how well they can do repairs vs Apple and you can tell the brown store owners only give him the time of day because he looks like them.

@LinusTech has talked about his Linux challenge on WAN show again. I've clipped out some moments I thought were funny and I am genuinely excited to see how exactly Linus manages to fuck up Linux AGAIN!

Start of segment "...already out on Floatplane we'll talk more about that later." He did not talk more about it later.

This then leads into the Big Cope Sesh because Linus is mad everyone called him retarded for trying to jump into popos again. I will agree that System76 are retarded niggers for pushing their jank ass desktop environment as the default before it was ready.


Linus managed to install 2 different distros on 2 different laptops and both are fucked. Kubuntu on the right was just hanging on that screen with no progress indication, apparently it was still installing according to the next clip I have.

Credit where it is due, he is actually trying quite a few distros, but it seems like he's only doing this because he doesn't want to even attempt to reinstall the OS once he breaks it.

Kubuntu is actually kinda fucked! Every time the PC is powered on, it thinks that it is booting from a piece of installation media. The data seems fine, but Linus, what the fuck. Just reinstall the damn OS! Clearly something went wrong on the install the first time! Hell, maybe that would have fixed the bazzite and pop os machines too you fucking retard!


And at the very end he told a very long uninteresting story about how Australian iPod enthusiast DankPods went to visit Linus again and during the visit Linus somehow broke DankPod's Bazzite install. Apparently it will be a full length video so we will be able to actually see if he fucked up.

Really this "Linux challenge" should have just been PopOS vs Fedora on 2 of your laptops for a month. PopOS being the bad choice you made the first time you moved to Linux, and Fedora because the guy who made Linux uses it and you helped him install it. Then you get to compare the experiences as a Linux brainlet.

At the same time on different machines too. Does he set weird UEFI settings on all of his gear? Maybe he has embedded chinky spyware in his hardware mucking things up.

My guess is that he just knows too much for his own good but too little to not fuck it up.
I've somewhat dealt with this years ago from people starting to tinker with the school computers and destroying completely the kde config, I just think you just shouldn't start modifying shit on your computer that you don't understand, or at least own to it and don't try to cope for hours and shift the blame into someone else.
But knowing the people he's surrounded with, I really can't see why he wouldn't struggle so much, I still remember the tech shrek nigga literally telling him to fucking install steam as a flatpak to get the nvidia drivers to work, when in fact the only thing he needed to do was to pass some environment variables in the launch params of the game.
I might have a clue as to what's really happening to him, he's probably trying to install an outdated linux on a brand new computer from this latest gen, so half the shit isn't working properly, or it could work with some love, having used lots of laptops that have had severe issues with linux, I can just tell he most probably just need to find some kernel params that make it work alright, in one video he's trying to install it on an asus proart, having had several asus laptops myself, only a single one of them has worked alright without much tinkering because all issues were already solved upon me buying it, but still, most linux distros come working OOTB so you can start straight away, but that doesn't mean all hardware acceleration, drivers, tweaks and other things come configured by default.
At the end of the day, distros can't just have endless lists of tweaks for every laptop and computer parts combination possible.

I will echo your statement about outdated Linux on brand new hardware, dealing with that with the work laptop. 2025 Dell with Ubuntu 22.04 and now 24.04.
For ASUS I found https://asus-linux.org/ with a quick Google search. I swear there was something more generic for ASUS laptops overall, not just ROG. A focused community effort is needed to get Linux to run well on them in any case..

Crazy because I'm pretty stupid when it comes to Linux and I've been using openSUSE for a year with no problems at all. Have it as a install it and forget about it kind of thing. I update once every 2 weeks or so. Works perfectly fine for me, how does he make a living doing tech stuff when he can barley figure out how to navigate an install menu without fucking something up?

Okay, with Linus trying Pop OS again, Luke with Cachy and Elijah on Bazzite, it would have been nice if someone just went with something boring and normie like Fedora, Ubuntu or Mint instead of only gaymer meme distros. Absolutely hilarious that Linus installed Pop at his Whale LAN party instead of beforehand and it went tits up.

Personally, I always recommend fedora for people that wants an up to date distro without any hassle, it's not perfect, but works alright 99% of the time I've used it.
On the other hand, I've installed LMDE in my parents computers and it has just fucking worked for the past 7 or so years, reinstalled it some months ago on a new laptop I gave them and no issues whatsoever.
I just put the chrome and downloads folder in the desktop and they don't have any issues using it, despite them being computer illiterate.
