It was a great setup for something major. Playing meditation music, starting a countdown, dangling a carrot for the audience to hang out longer.
It had a REALLY ominous vibe and freaked the fish out so much a few barricaded themselves in the closet.
When the timer hit 00:00:00, hellhouse should've begun.
Even if they had pulled something crazy an hour after the timer ended, it would've given the audience incentive to stay tuned in until the finale, to never leave early.
"FOMO" as zoomer faggots call it.

But then the rug pull being "We're giving them a Vibe Reset," throwing up a poll asking if the show should last longer, and throwing up dancing cat gifs and restarting the timer just killed all that momentum.

All that aside been enjoying the season a lot, but it's murdering my productivity. Why 3 more days? I wish it'd end tomorrow, unless they really pull some crazy shit out of their ass.
 
Narrative Poll about extending the season done in the dead of night on a weekend after hours of deliberate nothing. Jet and Ben acknowledged it at the time, only the most diehard fans tuned in 24/7 were participating in that poll, of course it would skew extension. They could do this over and over, the people who don't want an extension aren't watching at that time with no expectation of anything happening. Goranian.

In the basement clip, Jet said they needed to do a vibe repair but they were visibly upset and passive aggressive about it regardless. Season 5 and they haven't learned how to lay off the gas to avoid burning out the fish and freeloaders, that's been the most damaging pattern in the show that they get upset about themselves. Jet and Ben will wake up late in the afternoon then stay up until 4:00am or later keeping the fish awake and then wonder why they're lethargic day after day. On top of that, there is no apparent benefit to the fish to "make content" or "be interesting" every waking hour. There's no monetary or fishbuckary reason to do anything beyond "Production told me." I don't get what it would take to drill that into the wiggers' heads. The jobs were a basic solution to this problem as they're individual mini challenges but within 1 week they were repeating the most boring jobs and the pay was often hardly worth it.

Ultimately, they want to extend it to further for more money, which isn't necessarily bad but it leaves a sour taste for normal people to spring it on everyone. Then wiggers will complain that the fanbase is terrible when the freaks are who they cater to the most.
