Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

The Texas GOP isn't quite as dumb as the Dems but they're certainly not what I would call representatives of the current anti-establishment movement. They're still largely representative of the sclerotic 80's-90's style hyper-corporate/pro-conglomo anti-localist boomer cons. As was mentioned before by others, Abbott and company are still balls deep in shilling for tech corporations setting up shop in the state and have lobbying money pumped up their ass by energy conglomos like it's nobody's business. Remember - this is the same party that wiped out the ability of a locality to vote to ban fracking within its jurisdiction because the energy giants shat the bed after the town of Denton refused (via a local vote) to allow it within its borders. The overlooking of illegal migration into the state crosses party lines because the gas fields employ enormous amounts of cheap migrant labor while the old guard GOP employ them for McMansion lawn & garden care because they can't be bothered to maintain their own property. The TX democrats fucking suck and are more or less a somehow even-more-retarded vassal of the Californian democratic party.

Edit: People need to realize the endless suburbs are not their friends and are just as prone - if not moreso - to the consoomer atomization virus that's plagued the country for the past several decades. They're a carefully cultivated tacky veneer for the late 20th/early 21st century rot of a country that's become a parody of itself. Just look at how the land-devouring exurbs of D.C. in Virginia flipped that state purple-blue and is gradually doing the same to swathes of Texas, Arizona, Idaho and New Mexico.

For example: 1998-2020 the sleepy railway town of Roanoke, TX has swiftly been devoured by Amazon warehouses, strip-malls and particle-board McMansion exurbs of Dallas-Fort Worth. It's a stampede of stepford suburbanite pod people who want to vote for 'progressive' policies they won't have to deal with the fallout from, and if the locals don't like it, then they're just backwards bumpkins who need the 'enlightenment' that post-modern America provides. They don't support or shop at the small businesses in the historic town center, they go to the Walmart or Whataburger (which isn't even owned by Texans anymore, it was sold to some company in Chicago) . This is happening to small towns all over the state.
