Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

I don't think they even need to plant anyone. It's Seattle. If the choice was between a centrist Republican and a Democrat who promised to force every Seattle resident to adopt a homeless violent tweaker, they'd still vote Democrat. No Republican with any ambition to get elected would run for that seat.

The city attorney race is split between a prison abolitionist (i.e. she has literally promised to not prosecute any petty crimes and makes a shitload of excuses even for murders), and a woman that would be a flaming lefty in 50% of the states, but because she's in Seattle, is running as a Republican, and citizens there keep shitting their pants over 1/6 and how she's a Trump supporter every time she makes headlines.
And the abolitionist is almost certainly going to win, because less than half of the voting base ever shows up in off-year elections.

I'm surprised there is an official Republican party in there. I know they need to have a presence everywhere, but still.

It's one of the only places in the country where I think the local libertarian party is more organized than the GOP. I also think a lot of them are just fake. Even the right wing radio hosts out here constantly trash red politicians to gain more D leaning listeners.

TBH the entire Loren Culp campaign last year gave me some serious "controlled opposition" vibes.

The long march through the institutions was real. Just the thought of criminals on the loose, everywhere, really does terrify me because it is such a possibility, now.

Everyone got mad at Bush for Iraq, but then Obama did almost exactly the same thing in Libya and not only do people not get mad at him for it, they might just misremember it outright and attribute it to Bush. This is what the media landscape can do to your brain, man.

If it makes you feel any better, most petty criminals are usually set loose anyway. It's very hard to get locked up for more than a few days, and those cases probably aren't going to the city attorney.

He did bring up questions about mail-in vote fuckery right after the election but was immediately shot down and brow beaten by state republicans. Between that and everyone calling Kyle Rittenhouse a murderous psychopath, I've been turned off on state right wing politics. Washington is lost, and if shit gets hot over the coming years, I know I'm stuck behind enemy lines.

Edit- Since people are going on about releasing people from prison, Washington was 1 or 2 votes shy of releasing the Green River Killer as part of their covid prison policy.

I live in a red city in a red state. Californians already are flocking here, mostly to buy up houses and then "flip" them (paint them and plant some grass) and try to re-sell them for 100-300% profit. That's not counting the fuckers that actually move in. Only thing saving us is the Mormons are doing the same damned thing and they counteract the communists.
