Standard colds can too. I had an elderly relative who died due to a cold that progressed into pneumonia in the pre-coof days. It was no big deal back then that someone over 80 died of a respiratory disease.

Many more obits for people that are middle age with no cause of death; which granted they don’t always state but I’ve been suspicious for a while.A few pages back I posted about how the BBC has been announcing people who have died in their 50's and 60's and ending with:
