My local sonic has been out of chicken slider patties for over a week. And they're so short staff, the carhop I talked to said they would literally hire anyone if they would just apply.

Local McDonalds had a big sign up about hiring openers and closers for $10 an hour. A month later, they updated the sign, now it's $11 an hour. No one is applying.

Walmart has been out of bottled water for over a week, as well as lots of beer and soda.

I live in the South.

Is there something weird going on with cat litter? My local cat lady was telling me that cat litter is up 2x in cost over a few months, and getting hard to find. Also apparently wet cat food is frequently out of stock, this is a metro area of 500k in New England.

In the UK the Clay kind is getting harder to find, the wood pellet one is still on the shelves.

Okay, what is the reason for the labor shortage?

I overheard a trucker talk about it getting so bad in some places, they are hiring people with non-CDL licenses to drive box trucks full of freight.
Well that explains why half of our shipments are delivered by box truck guys who don't know what they're going.

Unemployment insurance and school is back in session.

this is just a side note but it's just funny to me that one of the most water challenged states decided that almonds, one of the most water intensive crops, was a good idea to grow lmao
Look who owns them. Almond farms are like vineyards. They're owned by wealthy, influential people in CA. That's why those farms don't get water restrictions but people do.

Red bulls are constantly sold out at the gas stations here so the racks are full of original flavor. Bottled water at all three supermarkets is almost entirely gone and has been for over a month now. The grocery stores have been missing random things over the past 6 months. The car dealerships here only have a few new vehicles due to the chip shortage so the used market is crazy right now.

Would reccomend worried about this to go to your local asian grocery store and buy a few 50 pound bags of rice, a few large sized tubs of curry paste, and a bunch of bullion. Shit is cheap, especially cheap at asian grocery stores.

If only any large ones existed in the bumfuck:nowheresville I live. Looking into some online options atm.

Oh wow I wonder why people aren’t lining up for a part time McJob for $11 an hour.

i remember having to deal with these supply chain issues this year from as early as april or may, it wasn’t as bad as now but it’s been an ongoing issue.

all i’ve seen in relation to christmas is that it’s just an increase in demand when the overall problem is the demand from the people sitting bored in their house looking to buy new things. the supply chain should have no problem keeping up with the spike in demand for christmas, it’s not some new unexpected time during the year when things sell faster.

pretty much it makes no sense to get mad about a problem existing instead of trying to fix it. you can’t pinpoint one cause to the supply problem when the supply chain is so complex. i’m convinced that none of the repliers outraged about christmas have ever worked a job. it’s the most childish shit ever but then again it’s twitter.

when the holiday season is over and there’s still a backup what will they blame?

bit of information i learned from a large dairy farmer in my area a couple of days ago, lots of dairy farmers around here are having an issue with feed, and it's not just covid and shipping that's causing the issue. dairy farmers around here normally grow their own alfalfa for their cows, but because alfalfa has been in such high demand they are instead just selling it to offset the high cost of feeds that they need. the San Joaquin valley use to grow a shit ton of alfalfa, but that's changed over the last couple of years to be almost exclusively almonds. in my area alone half of the farmland is dedicated to almond orchards, and now that shipping has become even more difficult, shipping almonds out and shipping alfalfa in has become impossible. other food rations they use, like cotton seed, rolled corn, and hay has nearly doubled in price per ton due to the shipping issues.

this is just a side note but it's just funny to me that one of the most water challenged states decided that almonds, one of the most water intensive crops, was a good idea to grow lmao
California had plenty of water before the LA tumor became inoperable. Having a great source of irrigation water in a dry, mild climate is wonderful for growing almonds and other tree crops.

Just cut the cities off. I like trees more than Califaggots.

I was just on Chewy.com and they were out of stock on several types of canned cat food, but usually when that happens I wait a day or two and they get it back in. Luckily they had enough of what I needed this time. They had the type of litter I needed too. I didn't check other brands.
Bird seed was still plentiful.

Maybe pet food shortages are related to meat industry problems? I haven't been following that as closely as I probably should.

If you can't find canned cat food but need it for, say, an older cat with few teeth, try mixing some canned (people food!) tuna or salmon with some cooked rice or softened dry cat food. It would get them through until shops have restocked.

how are the longshoremen, loaders, truckers, warehouse workers living without a job? Is the eviction memorandum that great that you can't just coast off reduced welfare?

april, may is lunar new year when asia shuts down. Thailand/vietnam(?) is going full lockdown so expect even longer delays.

Have fun if you need compression stockings. I couldn't even get basic black on Amazon in the size and brand I wanted. None of the stores I went to had them. They didn't even have insoles.

I'm having trouble with toothbrushes and mouthwash locally. Some stores have more stuff than others. I guess it depends on where they get their shipments from. Also plantain chips seem to be in short supply once more. During the pandemic I had problems finding them. The bodegas usually have tons of them but they haven't had any in two weeks and many of the other stores only have a few bags at a time.

Can't get Charles brand candy either. So no Ping Pong, Coco Crisp or Catch for me. Someone died of Covid at the plant in Trinidad back in March and it had to be temporarily closed. I don't know if it's still affecting things. But Walgreens hasn't gotten any Charles candy in a long time.

I'm having a hard time finding Glutino products.

If people start hoarding again your best bet is still the bodegas. They always seem to have essentials. You'll pay a bit more for some stuff. But not everything.

It's all horse shit anyway. The big surge in buying doesn't normally hit until mid-November.
