In an effort to avoid circling back to her mental illnesses, I'm going to relate this to Alyssa's attempt to get a tugboat. I thought I saw someone say she's been declined, and this is relevant to your point about Tumblr teens.

If she's had an SSI eval (ie, tried to get a tugboat) then they've already made some determination on whether she has a fictitious disorder or is a malingerer. Something like 30% of tugboats are declined for malingering, which is just a nice way of saying "Claiming to be sick to grift." I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on fictitious disorder vs. malingering (assuming you have some, natch.) It's an autistic distinction, but one some SSI psychiatrist or psychologist has apparently been forced to make.

Longer answer: possibly. It is also for a need for the human mind to be simplified into something easier to understand, as well as a convenient way to start over instead of keeping on guilt with your mistake. For some, compartmentalizing bad and good feelings and traits into characters and then rewriting that system every so often is easier than comprehending that you yourself can have all these feelings and do all these thoughts and actions without needing more than one person in your head. Pretending to start over and reboot or reorganize is incredibly freeing for those who think about their mistakes obsessively and those who are refusing to take responsibility for them as well. She is probably borrowing from a larger lexicon of system terms come up with by people who had too much time on their hands and thought way too much about it (like teens, neets, autist, and any combo of the three). It is a general emotional immaturity rather than definite autism.
