Some fundamentals: You can't make "any metallic material magnetic". Copper, for example, is diamgnetic. You need a ferromagnetic material to yield a permanent magnet. And you need a specific type of electricity to get magnetism. You need a current, ideally a loop of it. Graphene isn't a magnetic or even metallic material. It's a semimetal and has some very peculiar properties when it comes to magnetism. Graphene can only exhibit ferromagnetism when it has certain defects and topological properties, other than that it's inherently nonmagnetic. Requires some intense trickery to get the correct properties going. It's all based on defects and wrinkles and topology, which is why it's so fucking hard to work with graphene. Ideal graphene has all the great properties like almost perfect conduction (funny enough, the nigh perfect conduction works the same for both holes and electrons, so net conduction is still zero at the Dirac point) because charge carrier back scattering is suppressed, super high tensile strength, and so on and so forth. Real graphene has defects, always, because there isn't an infinitely large single crystal of graphene. You get different electrical and mechanical properties at the edges, you get surface impurities, you get all sorts of shit. Largest single crystals you get in the lab via CVD methods are in the millimeter range (I think), and those can only retain their miraculous properties if they're either hanging free (requiring some seriously annoying manufacturing steps involving HF etching of the SiO2 substrate) or sandwiched in hexagonal Boron Nitride sheets (which is similar to graphene in that it's a layered 2D material with a very similar lattice constant, but being an insulator and chemically inert).
