Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp all go down in major outage

Ars Technica says its bad code. surejan.webm
The problem with this is that it doesn't explain all of facebooks related services going down - They're all hosted on different webservers. Which either means they're colocating them and rolling out updates universally across all of them, which is weird on multiple levels, or something else coordinated broke, or someone else coordinated to break it.

Maybe my networking knowledge is out of date, but I don't see why the companies would coordinate their nameservers like that and share configure updates blanket across them. If a more networked individual has insight, please do correct me.

I think twitter is down

This was a screen grab from the BBC article but it won't load properly, so Twitter might be bolloxed.

Wasn't Biden talking about DNS services the other week or something?

It's complex but TLDR Facebook's BGP route went down. This is essentially the map telling computers where to point to in order to connect to facebook. Without this map, no one can connect to or from facebook. All of these services are under the facebook BGP umbrella and so they went down.

It's 100% to cover the gaps the recent whistle-blower leaked.

They realized just how exposed some of their shit was and panicked when that info went public.
