Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp all go down in major outage

if facebook accounts have been hacked and sold, what are the chances that these emial addresses/passwords will be able to be used to get in to other sites?

Didn't something similar happen a few years ago when people hacked the NSA, or something, by using passwords they got in a hotmail hack?

I can't remember the full details.

I can't help but be sad thinking about how not only have people not become more aware of things like internet protocols and how to run their own services as computer became easier to use in the last few decades, but even more tech-savy people have grown accustomed to relying on online services like google and facebook without any sort of worry about what will happen when those services go offline. Just now, my professor sent me a google drive link for class and I was thinking about how easy it would be to set up a FTP server to handle document sharing instead of relying on closed source services that we don't have any control over. And no one will learn anything from this, run their own forums, move to protocol chats instead of discord or slack...just wait for the service to come back online and wait around until it happens again.

in sha’allah let it be true
5 billion, so maybe 1 billion real people and 4 billion spam bots / fake accounts.
Grain of salt info: Peter Rosenberg on The Michael Kay Show said someone, who is a blue check and pretty reliable, texted him and the rumor is routing code got deleted (think that's what was said).

EDIT: OK found what he referenced:

Step one of getting hacked is to unplug all your shit to keep it from getting hacked. This isn't a suicide, it's a tactical withdrawal.

I want radio based local mesh nets and piracy via trading USB sticks of hentai and I want it now NOW NOW NOW
You and me both, if I had the cash for the equipment I would totally set up a packet radio BBS.

Also I dont get all the people saying facebook is "deleted" just because the routing tables or whatever are gone. The data that is "Facebook" surely still exists on racks of storage arrays in data centers or whatever.

I could be wrong but aren't some people saying that Gmail's gone down as well?
Haven't heard of that, but I've heard other people say Twitter is down for them. It would line up with the rumors of it being a DNS issue though if they're all using the same one but iunno enough about dns and routing stuff so take it with a grain of salt just be happy it's all crumbling down

Doubt its malicious, from what i understand the networking team there may have pushed out a patch which was bad, and said patch also ended up locking them out of any way to manage the networking hardware remotely. Which means only the pajeets in the data centers with physical access to the hardware are able to fix it.

Still though, this is so fun to watch, what a great day to see a cancer of the internet offline for so long. Facebook employees and investors are absolutely seething right now. I hope these platforms being offline for so long wakes up some people to how much time they spend on this shit and that living without it isnt so bad
