Just pitching in anecdotally with regards to the whole "1 in 20 women identify as trans/NB" data point:
College campuses nowadays are fucking infested with she/theys and tranny ideologues in general. It's a social contagion at this point and the whole they/them gender identity offshoot is just this generation's version of the "not like other girls" cultural phenomenon except 10x worse since now you got women lopping their tits off because they think that if they don't adhere 100% to the stereotypes often associated with femininity and womanhood they're literally men. A woman with short hair? That's a man, baby!
Just so you're all aware what modern college LGB/T activism entails nowadays, I recently poked my head into an LGB/T meeting on campus and the entire thing was trans-oriented. I had to listen to a group exec solemnly announce that a Dunkin' Donuts employee dead-named some fatass when they were calling them up to the counter to get their coffee and croissant. He went on to discuss how the center was working towards including pronouns on student ID cards and how the group was attempting to pitch in with the legal team on campus to make it happen because there's been a "rapid increase" (big thunk) in student name-change requests within only the past year or two.
Also, just an off-hand and kind of flippant remark, but it will never not be funny watching gendies silently fume whenever a gender-nonconforming student refuses to go by they/them. Speaking from the perspective of a young and fairly butch-y dyke, themmies and transmen especially will fucking hate you for whatever reason. I'm not all that sure why. What's odd is that the majority of NB/trans people tend to be heterosexual, so again, I'm not sure why the fuck they care so much what LGB people do in their spare time.
It's all just so tiresome, etc., so on and so forth.
ooh, not just college campsues. inner city LGBT communities are ALL like this now as well. and yes the VISIBLE resistance and resentment of gnc women who refuse to troon is incredibly discomfitting. watching this stuff in meat spaces is bizarre. there were incidents before I bailed where people would be talking about a gnc female as they/them even though these women were very much she/hers and I would interject and correct them "she is woman identified and goes by she/her" (pronouns matter, right?) and you could just SEE the uncertainty and resistance on their faces in response to it. and then a few minutes later they would persist with the they/themming. god, it happened to a butch dyke poet who died tragically from cancer - after her death quite a few people were retconning her as a they/them. it's definitely mostly other females doing it too. and what happens is it begins to wear down on the gnc women. all the queers around them just EXPECT them to be trans, so they start asking themselves if they've got it wrong, if they're in denial, if everyone else is SO sure, especially those of similar experience, maybe they are trans after all. the next step is the facebook announcement, then the binding, then the t-shots. there's no coming back after that. obeying the doctrines of the cult gets you lovebombed. that make them feel like they must've made the right decision. there's no more resistance to them as those gross gnc women, just acceptance as stunning and brave enbie transmasc demiboys. contagious self-hatred. in the last few years there have been attempts to talk about this, and it always gets shut down as TERFery. attempts all across the english speaking world. one of the last convos I had with an AGP transbian (one of the more tolerable ones) I talked about this phenomenon of people assuming any gnc woman must be trans in some way and how upset many gnc women feel about this, and he legit responded "well if I saw someone in men's clothes I would assume they would have to be transmasc, that's just respectful." I looked straight at him and said "that's just homophobic." of course he was an autistic socially awkward beta sperg so he just kinda shrivelled up but the LOOK on his face, I knew he was thinking "TEEEERRRRRRRRFFFFFFFFF". all the more reason these heterosexual trans identified people need to get the fuck out of LGB spaces - they do not understand same sex attraction or gay and lesbian people at ALL.
as for why the tifs hate you for not reidentifying - because it invalidates them. because your ability to stand in your womanhood, however butch and masculine it is, makes their fragile, intricate, make-believe gender identities shatter in an instant. they hate themselves so, so, so much and, as I observed before I ditched, they need every other female around them to hate herself too. so that they can be more comfortable with both their own self-hatred, and with her. if you resist being dragged down to their level of delusional gender woo, of participating in the fantasy where you're all big strapping mascy macho manlets, you are demonstrating it's all fucking meaningless bullshit and they will never, ever, ever be able to transcend the reality of being female. you are an affront to their faith because you continue as you are, devoid of the ideology they cling to for meaning. and if you can do that - why can't they? why can't they love themselves enough? that's why they hate you - because you don't hate yourself.
