Twitch has been compromised

it’s very weird that so many people are surprised how much some of these streamers are making. autists have been accurately tracking DSP’s take for years. all you need to do is watch a stream and do addition.
What I'm curious of, is how accurate this is to what was assumed he made, and whether he paid taxes on this amount properly. I swear he's slapping those microtransactions to the tune of thousands a month in business expenses on his taxes just like his bankruptcy which means he's absolutely committing an insane amount of fraud. He lied to his lawyer and I guaranteed it was the same line he feeds his tax preparer.
Twitch is partially responsible for the gamer girl phenomena. They need to be destroyed.
Not Twitch but low class women who are desperate for attention and simp dudes.

The point was you can't say, his job is to be this in order to make that kind of money. Even if he's a decent guy he's still an actor, and despite what assumptions you have or what kool aid grift you've chugged down he bragged about getting people to donate for a surgery when he could have single handedly saved the animal behind the scenes silently. But having manipulated others to pay then bragging about it, no matter how nice you are, is a pretty shit thing especially in the face of how much money he makes now.
If he was nice, alleviating the suffering of the animal would have been the only goal. The fact that he used the situation as a grift means he is fundamentally evil. Maybe when people call him genuine they mean he's genuinely evil.

Weirder that people are upset at big streamers for making so much. It's not their fault, instead focus your outrage at the people giving them the money and the overall misallocation of resources that's driving the whole planet into the ground.
I think it's more when nonstop streamers be like "Man, I'm so sick of rich people and capitalism ruining the planet. " Not saying every streamer is like that, but it definitely feels a bit odd that the most social justice'y~ peeps (Take all the danger hair faggots on Critical Roll for example) are making enough money to buy a few small countries in Africa from their AMAZON INC bucks alone.

It's the same thing with YouTube and Onlyfans and shit. I know every nigga has to hustle and shit, but imagine telling peeps to vote blue and shit because of the poor but then having enough money from your corporate masters to live off Dom Pérignon and lobster in your mansion daily.

No one here excuses simps and paypigs. The issue I have is how many of these zoomer communist faggots and whores think the teachings of Marx would be the best thing ever for the working class while earning six figures for licking a microphone or playing video games.

it’s nice to think that this will have any lasting effect on anything. it won’t, but it’s comforting to think about while i walk around in a world full of people working so they can sign their paychecks over to a jiggly squeaky-voiced anime avatar

I'm so tired of publishers doing this. there's something a lot of people don't realize currently: Steam is very, very far from simply a digital games distribution platform, if you're one of the handful of sperglords autistic enough to game on Linux. ever wondered what Valve has been doing for the last ~7 years? or what happened to the Steam Machine, or SteamOS? all of those projects have been merged into a concentrated effort by Valve to massively expand game compatibility on Linux. Valve works more or less hand-in-hand with the wine developers by developing their own parallel compatibility layer, Proton, which very long story short makes Windows games run on Linux (usually with comparable or even better performance than on Windows). Steam on Linux is much more than just a digital storefront, it's an entire tool to install, configure, and run Windows games with Valve's own compatibility layer, and Valve is a very active and instrumental participant in the ongoing effort to expand Linux games compatibility. all the other shit like the BNet launcher, uPlay, Origin, Epic Games Store? of course they don't do anything even remotely similar, they don't even have Linux clients, you have to install them through a compatibility tool like Lutris just to run the launcher and then the game you want to play. and if it requires one of those stupid ass anti-cheat spyware suites, forget about it, Linux doesn't arbitrarily grant kernel access to user-space applications so they either assume you're hacking or don't work at all. Valve on the other hand is actually helping develop anti-cheat platforms so that they're not so ridiculously intrusive as part of the Steam Deck project. these "Steam competitors" aren't actually making an effort to provide any kind of notable service, they just want you on their shitty platforms so they can flood you with ads and rake in the analytics money

:neckbeard:

ever get tired of MS' bloated piece of shit OS? the integrated spyware suite, the ads on your start menu? the way it shoehorns you into using MS' terrible software? do yourself a favor and learn to use Linux, even if you primarily use your PC for gaming, good guy Valve makes it super easy to make the transition. if you're curious about game compatibility, go here and try searching for your favorite games (I'll warn you ahead of time that shit like Apex Legends or PUBG is borked because of their awful anti-cheat software, but why are you playing that garbage anyway)

What does this do to Twitch's "bits aren't money" narrative and are there any legal implications for them? They seem to acknowledge that bits are indeed money by putting dollar figures in the columns with 'Bits' labels.
It doesn't matter that much. In the US at least, they would be taxed as gifts. As in not taxed for the amounts we'd see. There's a threshold per individual gift.

Agreed. Except for penguinz0/moistcr1tikal; he's just a Floridian greaseball, but at least he's funny. None of the others posess anything close redeemable qualities. I do find it amusing that he's also in the top-10.
Charlie has too many videos where he dicks around with dildos with his friends. He also has a few "reaction" videos where he says nothing interesting while just watching someone else's videos they actually put effort into making. He isn't a complete trainwreck but he realized that you can do literally anything and as long as the stream is on he is making money.

I feel like some of the criticism of some Twitch streamers is totally fair, a lot of them are narcissistic grifters. I don't watch twitch at all, but I have a hunch that not all of them are like that, and some of them just bumble about in ways that look shady to critical onlookers, but are really just incompetence.

Imagine you're some average IQ epic-gamer. You're not very smart and don't have any serious life prospects, which is why you decide to start streaming on Twitch for fun. You don't think it's going to make you rich, it's just something to do since you've just gotten fired from Wendy's or you've dropped out of college. Then in only a couple months times you're making $10k a month and rising and have a huge fanbase. How would you react?

Probably not super well. You did get fired from Wendy's. If even a Wendy's can't rely on you long-term it's crazy to think that thousands of zoomers watching your every move won't find something annoying that they can criticize.

I'm not saying they shouldn't do better if they are fucking up, they should do better. But also you gotta remember who becomes a Twitch streamer in the first place. Most of them don't set out as money hungry lunatics (though some definitely do, and some change over the course of their career). They're just your average gamer who happens to be funny enough to entertain a child. It's really not that high of a standard and I don't think it's surprising when they bumble around aimlessly.

Everyone's a faggot, not everyone except the one dude you like
And only faggots in denial feel the need to point that out.

I never said I liked him, just that he's funny; I can laugh at someone without feeling the need to blow them.

His Top 10 position is amusing because he's such a greaseball, and yet people still think he's genuine.

it's completely out of touch board members who come up with the idea that the only thing a Steam competitor needs to do is download and install games from the cloud. They are literally trying to compete with Steam as it was on launch in 2003.

Some of guys need to stop crying about these streamers' earnings and revel in this shitshow. Yeah, they make more than you will likely ever make in your lifetime, but you need to appreciate what you have instead of envying what others got.

PC gaming has become such a mess in regards to the amount of launchers and third party accounts a person needs in order to experience everything on the market. Gaming peaked in the PS2 era and nothing will convince me otherwise.

Listen, you... you idiot fucker...

This doesn't just scream fake, it blasts it from the fucking rooftops with a megaphone.

I knew simps had low standards but jesus fucking christ.

It's likely been already said multiple times here before already, but Vapor seems too on the nose for it to actually be the final name of a steam competitor, though Amazon isn't above copying others, as evidenced by that Amazon Basics product line.

Probably just a development codename for it, leaving the actual name to marketing.
