Eh, you say that, but I'm willing to guess that a fair number of Twitch streamers have family members that are more or less proud to see their kids/siblings have made it on Twitch if they're drawing livable incomes off of it. Hell, even Huggbees (Critikal's best friend and one of the Official Podcast hosts) has streamed 60 Seconds/Parsecs with his own mother a couple years back and she took delight in the experience.

Granted, I'm sure that experience isn't the same for all Twitch streamers, but it's like others in the thread stated: gotta respect the hustle.

COVID triggered a mass leave of old employees in IT that were close enough to retiring, and has resulted in more youngsters with 0 skills brought in. Security and infrastructure are falling apart at obcene rates.

Add in mass homogenization under a small number of companies and you get a recipe for the entire internet going down on the back of 3-4 companies getting hacked.

Imagine, if you will, that you're sitting around, and someone comes up to you and puts a $100 bill in your hand, and they tell you "You can't just squirrel that away, go spend it on something".
That would be pretty nice; You could go get a nice cut of steak and some top shelf booze, get some new clothes, buy some kind of tool or hobby supply you've wanted but couldn't quite justify, take your family/friends out someplace, or hell, give it to your mom so she can get her car fixed or something. There's no shortage of options.

Now instead imagine the life you're living is one where you look at that $100, and the only thing you can think of to do with it is hand it to strangers online for a few moments of validation; that's how little money means to you, not because you're necessarily wealthy, but rather because you're so underdeveloped as an individual that the idea of having independent pursuits is completely alien to you.

I believe that's probably what Ted Kaczynski would've referred to as a consequence of oversocialization, and seeing so many people increasingly reduced to hollow personality-less shells that have no reason for waking up aside from grasping for social approval is really pretty tragic. At some point you may as well just tie the noose and have done with.

I'd guess that's entirely deliberate; they want a small subset of extremely visible and extremely rich streamers, because if all that money was distributed more evenly they'd be living far less flashy lifestyles, which wouldn't be nearly as good in terms of marketing. 2000 people making a modest income isn't nearly as enticing to potential users/streamers as 40 ostentatious millionaires.
