Twitch has been compromised

How many of you are actually jealous of all these streamers most of them making hundreds of thousands a month bascially doing nothing?
I live pretty comfortably and am still jealous of the money, but I think there's a real monkey's paw element to exclusively profiting off of efame. A lot of the top 20 just talk at the camera or play video games. They have no talents or developed practical skills. Most of them wouldn't even make for decent entertainers if they didn't have something to commentate over, such as content created by significantly more talented entertainers on youtube. Some are so clearly emotionally immature that they'd never function in public settings even as cashiers. Being a grown, working age adult and simultaneously talentless or skilless sounds miserable.

Another streamer talking about it. He goes into his numbers on top of what was leaked, and says that usually subs/bits/ads make up about 45% of a streamer's earnings.

An alternate take, by a guy who used to do daily Twitch streaming but switched to focus on YouTube once it took off. He was the #2 streamer for Magic: The Gathering, but that's still a small niche so he isn't high up in the Twitch numbers.

One point he claims is that if you're going to invest actual effort in your videos, you get more from YT than Twtich. But MTG is a unique format, where you can do daily long form videos on YT and thus get more ads in between games. Twitch seems to rely on more short-term watchers with fewer ad breaks, so the numbers scale differently, with more emphasis on viewers than on video type or ad placement.

Subs and donations scale differently, of course. There's probably some more interesting analysis to go through and discover "conversion" numbers of watchers to subs, or % of subs to donors. I haven't looked at the dumped files yet, but I'm hoping there's enough raw data in there to support the analysis.

Do you know where to find the dump?

Critical is coping hard that the twitch numbers got dropped. Can't archive right now.
Jesus christ if anyone needs a dictionary definition of crying out in pain as you strike, just show them that video.

i’m happy this “came out” yeah every streamer loves to mention their sub count is public, but every streamer also wants to be relatable and act like your friend and people have a way of ignoring just how many times a minute big streamers get donations.
And the defense brigade for everyone, especially hasan, are just insufferable “yeah he makes 3mil + a year, but he’s a laborer just like us!”. but yeah i guess there’s jealousy, fuck man, most of these people don’t even do anything valuable. i feel different about the ones that do. shiiit i have the top tier for the RLM patreon and i’m sure those guys make tons without me but i appreciate their work. but yeah, others have said it, i can’t be jealous of their overall lack of skills or qualifications

I think people putting do much importance on streamers have made them lose the respect of a 9-5 blue collar worker.
Hasan doesn't care about the working class, he's not doing anything meaningful for John and Jane Doe who have to sacrifice many hours of their lives to come home tired and feed their kids.
Hasan preaches socialism and takes donations from commies? That puts food on the tables of poor families' tables!
The internet has severely distorted the perception of reality for a lot of people.
And now that Hasan's rich, will he pay extra taxes he has a boner? ....Anyone? No?

I'm not jealous or envious at all. I'm more upset that we live in a time when mush mouthed people say literal baby speak gibberish in front of a camera and become millionaires for it.

>be struggling twitch streamer
>for 3 years have highest donation be from your grandma who died a year earlier
>every night list of highest donations has her name
>record finally gets beaten by BAWLSKING_TAINTLORD[BBC]
>now people donate just to see who's innuendo name gets to the top

Thanks grandma

Know what? Not me. Know why? Because it's all gonna come crashing down eventually. I used to want to be a YouTuber. Tried for years to get big. Then I watch as all these people who actually make money from YouTube have to hold their tongues and tie themselves in knots to not get demonetized and I'm like "JOKES ON YOU, I WAS NEVER MONETIZED TO BEGIN WITH!". Same thing with Twitch. No king reigns forever and when your e-fame finally dies down you won't have a marketable skillset to survive.

i'm in this same boat with a caveat: unless something huge and earth-shattering happens to livestreaming as twitch knows it and it suddenly becomes an explicitly exclusive clique/'career', they'll keep a not-insignificant part of their audience as they get older, and if they're serious about keeping their faces on screen they'll be able to coast by on that for the rest of their lives.

still, i agree. being likable is a quality that very few public figures think is necessary now, so here's what we have: horrible, demented, deranged people spewing total insanity. the modus operandi of wokeness isn't going to last forever. take anita sarkeesian and zoe quinn for example. i believe that darksydephil and jim sterling are nearing their respective cliff drops, too. for a lot of them, they have no way of generating income or 'making it' besides begging for it. i'm not optimistic about today's creators being remembered in history as anything but whoopee cushions, but if they can turn themselves around, reject being an NPC, i'm all for it.

if they can't, so be it. i enjoy warming my hands at any dumpster fire.

I'm interested in how these guys try to stay relatable to their audience while sitting on lots of money. Income was always an icky topic for content creators because most of the audience isn't that well off.

the only way forward is to be real and honest with yourself, for your entire life. the main way to fit in as your life and circumstances change is to just be true to your core motivations and goals, adapting to your surroundings. very few of them seem capable of reinventing themselves because they've been machines all their lives and they get angry in very petty ways.

what happens when an unassuming normie suddenly becomes successful? they often become extremely uncomfortable with themselves. Notch became a billionaire, and very quickly had no idea who he was or what he was doing in his existence. who he was, was no longer 'acceptable' for a man of means. but he had no idea what a man of means should look like. so of course he had an awkward phase like living in a mansion and doing things that got him teased and mocked. but in his case, at the core, he was and still is no longer doing what he always did.

in fact i have no idea what he's doing besides probably shitposting on a forum somewhere. the last i ever heard of him was donating money to the speedrunner convention and some very sad people participating in that event found ways to snap at him. if he's decided to quit the internet and just live out his days in comfort and wealth, more power to him.

compare that to Tony Hawk. what is he doing? exactly what he always did. he's just not competing anymore, and he's doing what he did simply at a larger scale. what's Joe Rogan doing? well, he's not matched for likability. he's extraordinarily popular and authentic, and he has the unique trait of being hyper-masculine yet very nurturing.

many of the most popular creators and streamers online have twisted views of what a person of 'their personage' and 'their means' is supposed to look and act like, and the facades they construct have never come off as genuine or believable at all. crit1kal's sex toy fascination has never been entertaining. to me, it's an edgelord doing bizarre things because hey, he's an edgelord, and oh! look how aloof he is about it! even if you had a great time there, something's not quite right about it. at the end of the day, you forget all about it, and are left wondering who or what you're even watching.

bit like a Gatsby party in that respect.

ppl with money often don't get how big a deal that money is from poverty's perspective
Ppl without money don't get how having a bunch of money doesn't change as much as they'd think.

There is reason lottery winners arent any happier after than before (when measured with 2 year distance).

The only good part of the vaush molymeme debate was when moly suggested vaush share his streaming time equally with disadvantaged minorities.

Since I only watch streamers irregularly, and if they're someone really good at a game I like and would like to get better at, I admit I am actually somewhat jealous of someone who makes six figures doing something I enjoy doing, and do for free.

I wouldn't actually swap places with them, but it's a pretty sweet deal. I'd never swap places with DSP though, he's a miserable motherfucker with a wrecked life, on top of sucking even at Twitch. He doesn't even break six figures on it.
Most of them wouldn't even make for decent entertainers if they didn't have something to commentate over, such as content created by significantly more talented entertainers on youtube.
One of the streamers I sometimes follow is lethalfrag, who does pretty well on Twitch apparently. He also has a culinary arts degree and has actually worked in the field for seven years, and occasionally does a cooking stream that is pretty good. So if (more likely when in this world) the streaming stuff dries up, it's not like he has nothing else to do.

I think I'm going to quit my day job to grift as a socialist/Marxist faggot deer person and maybe I too might be able to buy mansion in Beverly Hills. In fact I've already dyed my hair green, blue and pink; taken to Twitter to denounce cos gendered white men.

Anyone have another link of the leaks? Everything I try is taken down and I feel like I'm missing out here. :(
Literally go back to the first page of this thread and find the magnet link. That shit ain't going down.

not true and also has nothing to with my point. it's obvious why these streamers don't brag about being rich like rappers do. they're entertainers who know their audience.

Pretending to not be as rich as you really are is a sign of foresight. Pretty much anyone that doesnt do that is a retard. Whether theyre streamers or not. Unless you want people to invest in your stock fund, then you want to appear richer.

Kinda glad that literally anyone who wants to know how Twitch works from start to finish, can. Hopefully this will lead to innovations for the common person for streaming/video.
Nobody needed this leak to know any of that. There's no real secret sauce in anything tech related. Everyone is using more or less the same tech stack, and anything remotely innovative eventually winds up on an engineering blog somewhere, or otherwise gets showcased on highscalability.com.
