The game is already kicking a ton of game journo asses enough to have them squealing, so its in Phil's best interest to steer clear. If MercurySteam's Dread bosses are as tough or harder then what they came up with for Samus Returns, he'd be fucked.
He did everything he could to hide how much he made from everyone. He regularly denied he made as much as people like actually calculated until he had to admit it via his bankruptcy. He was never honest about how much he made. If he was, he would never have needed to do any "emergency fundraisers" and we all know that all of his bills could've been paid by just his twitch payments.
Remember after being kicked out of the partnership and affiliate programs, he claimed he needed more than 120k bucks year just to survive but just never said it that way and banned anyone who could do basic math.
What's especially retarded about his take is that he would've been perfectly okay with them if he was still there and he knows it.

In fairness, Phil didn't give up his SSN on his own, apart from the last 4 digits that were on his bankruptcy forms. Once you have those, it's not that hard to guess the first 5 if you have a computer, some knowledge of how the numbers are assigned, and a government website that will verify your guesses.
