I see this featured, and I figure it's been like 6 months since I've logged in, might as well check.

it's twitter with a lot less cancer and 100% less astroturf

what makes it cool though is that it's not just some isolated little site. All of the instances connect so the actual number of people you can participate with is huge and there's a large set of varying interests. That's what makes it better than parler and gab where you're just in a qboomer echo chamber.

"The Fediverse" is a group of web programs and services that use a common protocol called ActivityPub. This allows separate servers (or "instances") to connect to each other and relay/proxy the content posted to each other.

Federation between these servers happens through multiple different ways. For Pleroma specifically, you can read some of them here:
