Phil isn’t a fighting game player.

What’s the last fighting game he played?
To memory it was GranBlue which he claims he got baited into playing because it played like Street Fighter (where he picked the woman with a Hulk Hogan face, yes, I’m dead serious). Virtua Fighter 5 doesn’t count since he self-admittedly only was playing it because it was free on gamepass.

GranBlue was Feb 2020.

What fighting games have come out since then?

- Samurai Shodown collection
- SFV rerelease (this counts since it’s no different from SFII physical updates)
- Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late
- Virtua Fighter 5
- Melty Blood: Type Lumina (which just came out last week)


He’s also dodged games before that like nu-Samurai Shodown, Dead or Alive 6, BlazBlue...

To my knowledge before GranBlue (which he debatably played since he just played Story mode and then like a stream and a half of online) the last fighting game he played in an extended capacity was DBFZ and MvC Infinite before that which was 3-4 years ago.

So he’s not a fighting game player. He only plays a dead port of a 30 year old dead game in which he is a self complained champion but, quote, “doesn’t know all the matchups” in a game that’s been out for 30 years and he’s been playing for 20 of that.

Aside from this odd obsession about Avengers cause I dunno Tony stole his gin or Thor wasn't half naked, a 40-year-old professional gamer with a business degree who's run a "successful" 13 year business doesn't understand engagement numbers being high for a mediocre game on a subscription platform is something SE could show to investors to get money to greenlight further project.

Complains that new art has taken away from programming new content and CM's should stop wasting time on the forums when there's bugs to be fixed. Thinks pre-release builds, test realms and betas are RC builds.

And ofc if someone mentions that someone mentioned they heard on twitter a thing they think was said about the game and eventually isn't true "OMG the devs lied!!!"

Jeebus PP it's a single-player game (I think there's multiplayer things?), who gives a fuck. This is nothing new, I mean you should know this being a huge supporter of blizzard and FPS with microtransactions/battle passes.

Made it through Metroid Dread and all I can say is that I'm glad Phail didn't touch this game. Although I'm sure it would've given us a lot of salt and probably a rage quit before even the halfway mark. Not because of it's difficulty, but rather because Phil is an idiot and would either get lost and frustrated, or not realize the pattern of bosses and repeatedly die.

To give an idea on just how limited his history of the genre is, the only games he played competitively were mvc2 and ssf2t, the latter of which he only started playing properly at the infamous EVO tournament. Compared to the other big names at the time, he was a tiny fish in the pond. There's a recording of him doing a first to ten against mixup that ended up 10-0. Take a guess who won.

With ssf2t he only started playing in 2005, when he signed up to it on a whim, and had stopped once he left the fgc, except for the hd version for a bit. After the move, he stopped playing it until usf2 on switch and the anniversary. However he was never known to play any other fgs during that time. Whenever he talks about fighting games, remember the fucker hasn't played his "favourite" one for years at a time, and only does so on console rereleases that he then later claims aren't "accurate" like he can remember what it was like in yet another gin fuelled haze.

His missing more and more games is just pathetic at this point. He clings to his being a former competitor but he can't admit that he can't remember what any of his time was like.

Edit: got the wrong year, it was 2005 but the point still stands.

One of my favorite things is Phil telling his viewers to watch his archived content but the inconsistency is the funniest thing.

DSP refusing to play Fightcade despite it being the best way to play the classic fighters with godtier online and good players just goes to show that he is content beating bad players on an inferier port. Whever he faces a good player he always makes the bad online excuses. DSP is a hack and the fact he even calls himself a former pro is a disservice to the actual good players out there.

Because he knows he isn't any good at it. He got lucky once or twice but in the end, he knows that if he were to play anyone with any skill now, he'd stand no chance. The ego cannot stand any losses.
