Culture Man charged with murder of Black man who complimented his girlfriend

"A grand jury indicted Ian Mackenzie Cranston on Thursday with a charge of second-degree murder and five other charges in connection with the Sept. 19 shooting death of Barry Washington Jr., a young Black man, Deschutes County District Attorney John Hummel said during a rare downtown press conference Thursday night.

Bend Police arrested Cranston, of Redmond, late Thursday. He was lodged in the Deschutes County jail and is being held without bail, said Hummel, who held his press conference across the street from where the shooting took place. Cranston faces charges of second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, second-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon.

“Our country has a disgraceful history of denigrating, prosecuting, and lynching black men for talking to white women,” Hummel said in a statement issued after the press conference. “Over the last week, hundreds of people called and emailed me to remind me of this history; I responded to every one of you.”

Authorities have previously said the 22-year-old Washington was shot about 12:11 a.m. Sept. 19 after leaving the Capitol nightclub in downtown Bend. Cranston, 27, is alleged to have pulled a gun and shot Washington after Washington spoke to Cranston’s girlfriend, which angered Cranston. Cranston, who is white, was initially arrested at the scene on suspicion of second-degree manslaughter, but he later posted $10,000 bail and was released, angering many in the community.

After Hummel announced the charges to a crowd of about 20 people, there were audible expressions of relief.

Before the press conference, Hummel told Washington’s mother, Lawanda Roberson, of the indictment. He expressed his condolences for the loss of her son. She thanked God, Hummel said."

Video of the incident taken from the girlfriends phone shows the black man complimenting both the man and his girlfriend with his fists.

It depends on whether you’re in a Duty To Retreat state or not. If you don’t have a duty to retreat and you’re in fear for your life or the lives of others then it gets a bit more acceptable.

You don't have to tell me twice. I've been complaining about how dangerous and corrosive this stuff is to a stable society. Even Hammurabi knew better than this.

Allowing politics to enter into the law and justice system is the worst form of cancer the system could have. No amount is tolerable, as it completely undermines the entire notion of a neutral rule of law. If outcomes are not determined by an impartial weighing of evidence in the framework of settled law, but by the gross biases of a judiciary seeking conclusions first and rationale after, then all confidence is lost.

Why would men surrender themselves to the petty tyrannies of black robed radicals intent on using disputes as political vendettas? They have not even the spectre of divine right, or hereditary nobility, or personal acclaim that had been cited by dictators and kings of the past.

The only authority they have stems from the law, and when they discard the law to pursue their own ends, they forsake any legitimate claim to even the pettiest power. It just shows a strong correlation, that’s all. And yes, correlation is not causation, but feel free to use causation to argue the above.

Frankly, at this stage, despite increasingly desperate attempts to suppress it, there’s plenty of indication that contemporary African-American ‘culture’ is inextricably linked with violence, crime and mayhem. And I believe that young black men turn to this culture because we have built a society and economy that no longer has room for people (regardless of skin color) to support themselves and a family on a basic income without excessive government support. Bring back a healthy economy where digging ditches or bending tubes pays well enough to support a family, and watch a huge amount of violent crime disappear overnight.

I don’t believe the problems in the black community are genetic, I believe they’re cultural. But I also believe that nobody of any skin color is willing to stand up in Congress and ask that this be addressed.

Until the greater American culture is willing to confront and accept unpleasant truths instead of finger-pointing at everything other than root causes, this problem will not go away. In the long term it will lead to massive amounts of violence and death. All because leftism prescribes that the black community’s issues are all white people’s fault rather than supporting genuine research to unearth the truth.
