The funny thing is, he hasn't set a specific amount or gloated about how much he has received over the past month of him begging.

There's some possibilities:

A: He's been getting almost 0 donations compared to his last Birthday, and not being "open" allows him to keep up the charade that he has friends who donate to him.

B: He's pulling in a somewhat decent amount after not setting a specific goal or advertising just how much he's received. (X to Doubt)

C: My favorite theory is that he's seen my profile and running tally of his begs, and is trying to mitigate the total going up.

Aka, every possibility is him trying to keep the "I'm so poor" mask superglued onto his face.
