Bad Weddings and Wedding Trends - sperg about weddings here

I admit, I really thing the whole bridesmaids having to wear the same thing has to die. People have different body types and one dress that would look good on one person will look awful on the other.
I love that shit. Last wedding I went to the bridesmaids consisted of skinny meth heads and one 350-lb hambeast. All wearing the same dress, which didn't fit on any of them well.

Thanks trashy family for providing me with hilarity.

Whenever I watch videos on wedding fails a noticeable portion of them is the bride and groom shoving the cake into each other to the point it's a straight up punch to the kisser. It's trashy yeah but some of the comments are so paranoid where I'm not kidding, say it's the first sign of a physically abusive relationship. Again, it's trashy and rude to deck your newly-wed but calm down. Besides, if it really was abusive you'd think there would be no wedding at all, but, here it is .

I mean, cake smashing is uncool especially since the bride worked really hard on her makeup (or paid someone to do it).

I looked up anime themed weddings and I found a few more

Honestly, that One Piece one for a minute was kind of hard to believe it was real until I read the description in the video from the bride who confirmed it was indeed a real wedding.

I posted this one on the Consoomer thread, but in case you didn't see it, here is the Inuyasha wedding. This one actually has a very happy ending because it was found out almost 12 years later, they are still happily together.

and here is an additional video from the groom's account that I haven't shown yet

To make people sign up, they only allowed wedding related boards to be public and every other board only open to users only, this was a decision made by the parent company Internet Brands which is a company that owns it.
Oh wow, Internet Brands fucking something up again?
I have no idea how these retards are still in business. They've killed every single project they've touched with their utter incompetence.
I hear the russian mob is involved.

Internet Brands has actually owned Weddingbee since 2011, before that it was like, a series of wedding blogs run by various brides, but they since moved away from featuring individual bloggers and it is mostly ads and a forum and shit, but don't worry, the admin whose name I think is Tyson (which a lot of users hate that he is a dude by the way) doesn't work for free to run that shitshow of a forum like the nonexistant/mostly inactive jannies do, they pay him as an employee supposedly. Every month, the forum seems to get a new glitch and nothing is done about, it's great. Like I said, it is on par with Alice's GOMI.

Though seriously, tell me more about this Internet Brands since you seem to know a lot about them. I only know them as the parent company who owns Weddingbee, I had no idea how shitty they were.

I mentioned this in the Consoomer thread, but I think Game of Thrones weddings are some of the most cringey weddings because most of these people haven't read the books, like seriously, don't they realize that most weddings in Game of Thrones something terrible happens or it is a forced marriage or something? If you reeeeeeeally want a theme, just do medieval fantasy or something. It is similar to Gatsby weddings where none of these people seem to have read the books and call it that instead of something like an Art Deco or 1920s wedding.

Game of Thrones wedding shit

This really stood out to me, because IIRC, Drogo and Dany's wedding was literally a forced marriage and Drogo raped her multiple times. Why would you want to glorify that?

View attachment 2631377
The only successful marriage in the entire series is Ned and Cat and we all know how that ended up lmao. They didn't even marry out of love, Catelyn was forced to marry him and she hated the North and didn't want to marry Eddard at first but over time she got used to him because he's a decent guy, and what else can you do in that situation, really?
And yet you never see anyone reference these two, it's always Dany and Drogo, or Dany and Jon (yikes the implications.)

Congrats to Rob and Dog.
Of course there's going to be exceptions to this but just making the entire day about one particular corner of your personality just seems dumb to me.
And what if you grow to hate that thing? Or that thing ends up sucking?
Think of all the Game of Thrones weddings, or the wokies who had Harry Potter weddings and now feel great inner conflict about TERF queen Rowling.

Also, does anyone want to see what happens when furries get married?
TRANS CUPCAKES.
Disney themed weddings make me want to vomit.
I can share the absolute trashfire of the wedding from this year in detail. It involves deathfats, narc MILs, snubbed children of all backgrounds, shit weather, family drama that's 20 years old, and having to squeeze an entire wedding + reception into a double wide trailer in the middle of bum fuck nowhere.
Do it. Do it you wimp.

God, I'm a Pokéfag and that Pokémon wedding was embarrassing. Whoever wore the horse mask clearly didn't want to be identified and so they could grimace all they wanted, and the little girl Jigglypuff (flower girl, I guess?) was the only one who could get away with it. Despite being fans, it's like no one could commit to it, not even the bride and groom. Definitely taking notes on the dos-and-don'ts of wedding themes if just to try and soften the cringe of what I might end up doing if I get married 'cause I'm a sperg at heart. (Although honestly, I don't really want to stick around for a reception. Just wanna be able to go off alone with my husband ASAP.)

Also, ninety percent of these dresses in this article are awful.
Oh God why. Do people not have a sense of taste or style anymore, or are all fashion designers hacks these days? All I know about my dream wedding dress is that I want angel sleeves and I don't want anything fancy unless the fabric already comes with something embroidered on it (flowers or whatever). Used to want it in the style of a kimono when I was younger, but I'm thinking "Nah" nowadays.

What were y'all even expecting lol. Yeah, all temple clothes for sealings, baptisms, and for certain rooms are provided by the temple (pity the girls who didn't know this, maybe I'm just the weirdo who knew by my teenage years 'cause my leaders and mom mentioned it), which also makes sense as there are some families who get sealed alongside their children, so they accommodate for that (think arrangements have to be made ahead of time anyway so they can have the clothes on-hand). The bride and groom then change into their regular clothes afterwards for pictures on temple grounds or at the reception hall (usually at the church).

It's become more common nowadays for Mormon couples to first have a civil marriage for the sake of family who aren't members or don't have the temple recommendations, they can take their photoshoots and such then with them before heading over to the temple. It's not as big of a deal anymore. But shame on whoever secretly filmed the sealing ceremony (probably no longer a member now anyway, I dunno), it's a holy place. It's not like what goes on isn't talked about or that the interior is hidden from everyone, it's explained during the open house tours what happens and photos of the celestial room and other rooms can be found online, but it's a sacred, personal experience for those involved and everyone goes through it differently.

Also lol at the text complaining about the stranger (gasp!) officiator giving the bride and groom marital advice for like 20 minutes, have they never attended any wedding ceremony before? Officiators can do that, scripted or otherwise.

And I don't get the idea of a Pre-Cana. Like why should you have to take marital classes or whatever before the wedding? Isn't that the role of the parents to give the bride-and-groom-to-be advice and such? Closest Mormons have is before the temple marriage, since a temple recommend and endowments are needed, the bishop interviews the couple separately to make sure they're both worthy to go to the temple, and if a repentance process needs to be done, which can take months of personal prayer and self-reflection depending on the severity of it.

Anyhoo while waiting for @Bakarina to tell their stories, here's my contribution for the thread: A JoJo ship-themed wedding--kinda.

I give them kudos for using the style of the OVA post-2014 tbh. They're still married to this day, from the looks of it, as the wife made a post on her Tumblr to clarify what actually went on (though it's in a condescending tone).

There's also a Saint Seiya-themed wedding that happened in Brazil last year. Looks a lot fancier if you ask me, and probably the best way to approach an anime theme since they replicated the aesthetics of the series. The InuYasha wedding clothes from before weren't too bad, either, though they could've touched it up a bit better even though they explained themselves, and my favorite is probably the One Piece wedding. Yeah, it's another ship-theme wedding, but you can tell everyone in that room loves One Piece, and they had it planned out (the bride's dad dressed as Genzo is fucking genius, and of course Luffy, as captain, would be the one to officiate a wedding on his ship) and they were into it. I hope the bride and groom are happy.

IIRC, in the books Drogo was pretty nice to Dany. No rape to be found.
These screenshots will be featured in The Decline and Fall of the American Empire.

The ‘can you serve burgers at your wedding’ one is the funniest to me. Yes, you can serve the most American food there is that nearly everyone likes in some format at your wedding.

What’s the deal with brides in sneakers? I know not all women like heels, but there’s plenty of tasteful flat shoe options out there. Grooms wearing sneakers with their suits also annoys me.

I can't say much about tacky themed weddings but most of the company I keep are trash so here's a few things I've experienced over the years:

I used to know a guy who got stabbed at three different weddings. I'm not shitting you, every time this dude showed up he'd get knifed. He also had the distinction of being 22 and still somehow in high school when he died (not from a wedding stabbing), so make of that what you will.

Went to a backyard wedding where the bride and groom had like six of their uncared for gutter dogs in attendance. During the ceremony one of them hawks up this huge clot of roundworms. Fucking disgusting lmao and beyond that they were barking at everyone and pissing on everyone's cars

Went to a reception at a Red Roof Inn which is like a crappy motel. In between bites of room temp shrimp and sweaty cheese you could hear a couple of crack monsters fuckfighting the room over. It turns out you can turn the Chicken Dance up all you want, you're not drowning that out.

I am sure if you ask Pedro who owns the Mexican restaurant in town to cater your wedding, he would be more than delighted to do business rather than scream cultural appropriation at you. I am 99% sure that person who wrote this isn't Hispanic.
Taco party is a way of life? Loteria? These retards manage to be the most racist of them all and they are not even trying lol

True, but she was also 13 years old and he was like 30 something, so even if you go by the book version where he's nice to her it's still pretty Yikes

ETA I haven't thought about it before this thread but ever since I turned older than like, 12, I've been to 0 weddings. I love adulthood and freedom :)

I'll powerlevel a bit, having done photo and video for a few weddings and being around the wedding scene in freelance media for a few years

Last wedding I ever did was a big spectacle, a few hundred guests, beautiful venue, the quintessential "perfect day on daddy's dime". I also happened to know that the bride was actively cheating on her fiance with my lifting buddy when she hired me.

No real surprises at the wedding itself- the groom and groomsmen all just wanted to recreate the Reservoir Dogs walking scene over and over, and the bride was desperately trying to make sure her strained smile never cracked.

They were divorced in less than 6 months, after burning through $35,000 on the big day.

I've also done redneck weddings where people proudly flash their concealed carry pistols to me between photos, but honestly those are usually fun and casual. It's the big "poor person's idea of what rich people like" weddings that tend to make for the best drama.

Isn't with Mormon weddings before you had to wait a year if you had a civil ceremony before you can get sealed? I know IIRC they recently changed it so you didn't have to wait a year so you could include other family members and also with temples closed during the pandemic, not to delay the start of marriages, a lot of people before just got sealed because they were too afraid their spouse would die or something before they got sealed or something. With the pandemic though, I think from what I have heard that has become more of the norm to have a civil ceremony which is good.

Also yeah, the guy who filmed it goes by the name of Mike Norton, he is an ex-Mormon who basically leaked everything out of revenge before leaving.

As for a personal wedding story here is mine:

Okay so I was about 10 years old and it was a cousin. This was my very first wedding I have been to and the whole weekend there was a power outage so they had to celebrate the wedding at my aunt's house by a lake. I was a kid so I didn't care, but the bride was having a huge meltdown the whole time because her wedding was ruined, that marriage didn't last. They had two kids before getting divorced.

What’s the deal with brides in sneakers? I know not all women like heels, but there’s plenty of tasteful flat shoe options out there. Grooms wearing sneakers with their suits also annoys me.
I guess sneakers are nice since they are comfortable, but do you seriously need "bridal sneakers"? Can't you just get some white ones for cheaper? Why do they have to be ones specifically made for weddings? I also noticed cowboy boots for a time were pretty big, even if the bride wasn't even remotely a country girl. Back in the early-mid 2010s, everyone had to have a barn wedding even if it didn't quite fit their personality or they were very much city people who would hate being at a barn otherwise. Honestly, unless you are country people, I don't think you should have a barn wedding.

Also, what are you guy's opinions on Plantation weddings? I know they are controversial and everyone says they are racist and stuff, but I mean, as long as your theme isn't some Southern Belle slave owner's daughter or something, it is a nice way to repurpose a building that had a bad history for something wonderful.

I mean, would it be ableist if your venue was a repurposed part of an old asylum considering people got lobotomies there and stuff? I actually know of a venue that is just that and it is pretty awesome with all of the old architecture as it was the chapel of the asylum repurposed.

Saying "getting married in an old plantation is racist" makes about as much sense as saying "getting married at the city hall in New York is racist because NYC used to be a major slave trading hub." Every building that's been around for more than a few decades will have some nasty shit attached to it. It's such a reach.

I know what they always said is "You wouldn't have a wedding at a Holocaust museum would you?" Which I am just like "sure why not? Museum weddings are a thing..."

Like I said, as long as you aren't LARPing as some rich slave owner's daughter getting married, it should be fine
