Well, it don't look traced. That's a step up from his usual offerings.
That’s what i thought at first too, but then i recalled his track record so far. After looking for a bit, the cracks revealed themselves to me, Look at all the anatomical bumps he included. I find it extremely suspect that a new artist who has never been known to study to improve can produce anatomy with that level of detail.
As far as artfags go, I’m not great but but I have studied for long enough and have mentored a few novice artists to know how the progression knows when pursuing a classic art education. So please indulge me in some artistfaggotry.
Learning to draw the human body is a well developed sector of art education.
I like how this video sums up the stages into 5 stages of study progression. Don’t worry about watching it, as i will summarize the point:
Stage 1 is when artists still draw things as symbols. An example of a symbol is emojis. This is a symbol for an eye, and doesn’t look anything like an eye in reality: 👁. During the symbol stage, artists improving their observational drawing skill will transition from symbols that the brain uses to conceptualize ideas or objects such as human eyes to drawing the shapes that their eyes see.
Wedge is stage 0 in my estimation. He’s just drawing for fun and is not pursuing a traditional art education. He’s trying to make stuff that looks good; that is why he traces, but he’s still willing to take shortcuts and has not yet put in the work to achieve his artistic ambitions. If or when wedge decides to start studying by learning to draw from observation, then he will transition into actually learning how to draw. Which i would find laudable as that means for the first time in his life our clown prostitute would try to fucking improve himself,
As an artist, i am glad he decided to start making art. As a Kiwi, I’m glad he started making art so i can lol at it
