Tension you can cut with a knife and guns in every sporting goods store stacked to the ceiling. And not the pump action hunting kinds. Youngkin has promised to treat Virginians as a free people and Mcaullif has promised to treat Virginians as slaves. It's not even hidden anymore the dichotomy. And it's a hard geographic boundary to it too. You drive out from Richmond through Henrico Country and it's Vote Democrat signs the whole way. Cross the bridge into Goochland county and suddenly its Youngkin. The signs are literally being placed on the political borders. It's ominous if we are being brutally honest.
I hope Youngkin wins, because while the Democrats will bitch they will have nothing to complain about because youngkin will leave them alone. If Mcauliff wins, pray for Virginia because he has promised to not leave people alone. If he wins and tries to implement vaccine mandates, mask mandate and gun restrictions there is going to be violence. I say this from a historical perspective of course.
*edit* I think the most telling thing though is if you drive in rural Virginia you still see the odd Democratic Party campaign sign. People are safe in rural Virginia to break with the majority consensus and support the opposition party.
There are no Republican party signs in urban Virginia. Hell, I barely see American flags in downtown Richmond anymore, let alone a youngkin sign. There is more diversity of opinion in the cornfields an hour away then then in the capital.
It's uncanny.
