Portions of police budgets basically rely on this.

Much of that changed this year in Arizona. You now have to be convicted in a court of law before any seizure of assets. However, you are correct in the police regard. There are police departments in southern Texas that depend on seized assets and the pickings are easy for them with the amount of drugs, money, immigrants and vehicles flowing back and forth over the border. Have read a few horror stories related to some that were innocent and stuff got seized.

Here's the thing though. Let's take his basic argument about how people "have the freedom to kill you with [their] COVID."

They do.

Think of ANY other contagious disease. Just basic ones like the common cold or the flu. You can have the flu, and be perfectly fine or have have a bad headache or something. Then you go out to the store and accidentally give it to some 90 year old man who then dies from it. Are you personally responsible for his death?

I mean, I don't want to sound completely heartless, but sometimes people die. Sometimes people get complications from the common cold and die. You might visit your great grandmother for the holidays and pass her a cold that soon kills her. 85 year old people die from damn near anything.

Never before except the actual most extreme "black plague" situations have people claimed that they have the right to not get sick. Sorry, you don't. When 85 year old Salubrious goes to the store and then catches the flu bug and dies, people will be sad, but life goes on. Salubrious didn't die from the flu, he died from being 85 years old.
