Apologies for necro'ing the thread etc. etc., but I never realized Eka's had a thread here, and I feel like it may be worth posting about my interactions with Eka herself and what I know of her.
To preface, I've never used Eka's Portal, but I did in my younger (cringier) days use another roleplay website (now dead, but still being hosted) that she ran, and I interacted with her extensively. I didn't even know she was Eka until a few years later; but I wasn't too surprised to find out, given several other users I interacted with were doing sketchy ERP (erotic roleplay) shit behind the scenes, and it turns out most of them had migrated over from Eka's Portal. She also had a bad habit of shielding these users (some of which became moderators) when they did dumb shit, which was made doubly bad by the fact that the site was advertised as being rated PG and was for users aged 13 and over.
Anyway, from what I remember Eka is a Chinese-Canadian (I always assumed she immigrated at some point, based on her ESL typing, which has to this day never improved) living in British Columbia (may have been Vancouver, but I'm not 100% on that.) She claims to be a T&H woman and worked as a radiologist; I remember asking her if that led to her interest in vore (or vice-versa), and she basically confirmed that was the case, but didn't clarify what came first (the fetish or the career.) My assumption was always that she had some sort of autism (to the surprise of nobody), and I was told she was "asexual" (there are a lot of self-described "asexual" autists on degenerate sites like Eka's Portal.) Aside from that she was always extremely careful about power leveling and rarely interacted with users of the site outside of surface level niceties and her role as a community administrator, unless they were people from Eka's Portal (or elsewhere) that she was already very familiar with. I figure this had something to do with wanting to avoid having her online activities affecting her IRL, especially if it involved interacting with underage users.
Recalling all of this has been something of a trip down memory lane for me, so if I remember any other details about Eka, I'll be sure to edit and add them to this post.
Eka is one of the most braindead website owners I have ever met. She basically ignores any criticism about anything at all, doesn't understand that code can have bugs in it, and seems heavily out of touch with the reality that 3D rendered lolicon is pedophilia and should not be considered fantasy. I'm not going to dive into that last point. It's its own separate issue with her and that site. But back when I used to use the site I pointed out, on a forum dedicated to feedback and reporting bugs no less, that adding custom tags to your roleplay profile was extremely broken. It added them globally to all your current and future profiles rather than just the one you were editing, popped up a dropdown autofill list of tags that other users custom added on their own profile which you shouldn't even be seeing, and had no method of removing them after you add them. And the autofill part, that should even exist to begin with, was so badly fucked up that if you selected one of the suggestions to fill the name field with it would go on to autocomplete every single parameter right down to the CSS styling as if it thinks that every user on the site is the same person. So you could type random characters into the name field, find someone's personal entry and select it, and have the entire form autocomplete and submit itself onto your own profile as if you were the one who created it in the first place because, big surprise, it was also written so badly that selecting an autofill suggestion also submitted the entire form for some reason. Which is where the lack of a deletion method quickly becomes a problem. The only option is hiding the custom entry, but it remains on all of your profiles forever. Likewise, any custom entries you create end up available in that autocomplete database for anyone to stumble upon and permanently cement onto their own profiles too. If you're the kind of person who, and there was a lot of them there for some reason, creates a profile for your IRL self like a total moron and fills your profile interests with custom sliders describing everything you can think of about your personality and way of life, anyone with an account can now autocomplete your life's story onto their own account and read it.
That isn't even where the shitty coding related to that feature, which was new at the time, ends either. It isn't relevant here whatsoever so I'll spare you all any further details beyond this one especially juicy fuck up in the code. Any HTML you wrote in the fields automatically executed. It could maliciously be used by naming a custom entry to something popular and simple like "feet2" for example, which would then permanently add it to a curious someone's profile when they selected it out of the autocomplete list. Since it gets added globally and can't be removed, whatever markup you stuck in there would run when someone opened any of an affected user's profiles. I didn't disclose this particular issue in the thread. I planned to bring it up later on after a discussion had been established rather than dump every bug I found into the OP and overwhelm anyone willing to respond who could fix any of it. I think it happened when I was trying to copy and paste a description out of another site and somehow copied a bunch of HTML with the text that broke the profile page because it's set up to accept HTML by default for whatever reason. If my memory is correct then that means you can write whatever you want in HTML, including page redirects, and hide it in a custom tag that anyone can accidentally add to their profile by pressing on an autocomplete entry that shouldn't even be there.
Just like Marmalady I used the roleplay site when I was younger. I stopped when I was confronted by a moderator for talking in a general chat room with someone they were role-playing with in private. I informed that person privately that a moderator approached me and told me to stop talking to them, which they likely questioned said moderator about, which lead to a short-lived ban that Eka overturned in minutes without reprimanding the moderator in question. No I don't remember or care who it was. At the time, the place was going downhill fast. I was one of maybe a half dozen literate writers left. The majority of anyone seeking ERP was using a loli character which is likely what drove off the other decent users, and after learning that the staff were a bunch of hopeless retards I migrated elsewhere.
Anyway, shifting back to the original point regarding Eka's incompetence, the reason I remember this so vividly is because of the way this situation played out. I searched the forum extensively for any mention of the bugs I was encountering before I created the thread to report them. It was baffling to me that no one else had discovered anything wrong. Well I got my answer when the thread disappeared before anyone like a developer or coder could even see it. It listed all the problems I encountered with their new custom slider feature, excluding the potential attack vector on unsuspecting users which I hadn't yet disclosed. The thread lasted for a whopping fourty seconds. I refreshed the page, to see if the staff would take quick notice of the first thread in the bug report section of the forum that had been posted in or created in literally years, and it was gone. Eka sniped it out of nowhere and completely deleted it. She didn't lock it or move it. I spent a half an hour testing their shitty new feature and jotting down all the bugs and the steps to reproduce them and she deleted it in under a minute. Since there's no notification system built into the forum that notifies you of such an action, I figured it was a bug and created another thread. I have a form recovery extension so resubmitting it all was no big deal.
In the fifteen seconds it took me to reprepare the thread I received a push notification on my phone for an email regarding a new private message on the forum. It was from Eka. At that point I discarded the new thread figuring my thread submitted correctly and Eka moved it to some dev forum and was private messaging me to thank me for thoroughly reporting all the bugs I discovered and how to reproduce them. I realized the thread was deleted when I opened the message and was greeted to a direct quote of the first paragraph of the thread, which lead to a page telling me the thread didn't exist, followed by a response from Eka underneath that said, "You can hide them." That was the entire private message. I provided a laundry list of bugs and the steps to reproduce them. Within seconds she deleted the entire thread and private messaged me implying that none of it mattered because I could just hide custom sliders, a point which I brought up in the thread myself and clearly explained wasn't a viable solution because they remain on all of your profiles and pile up alongside one another with no logical sorting applied to them which then buries any legitimate custom sliders you created within the mess of sliders you don't want. I was baffled by how careless and incompetent she was being. So I used my form history extension to paste the section of the deleted thread that she clearly didn't read, explaining all the reasons why what she just said was the wrong answer, into a reply. Underneath it I wrote up an explanation for the potential HTML exploit you could execute thanks to how broken every aspect of the new custom slider feature was. Because she was so careless the first time, I made it obnoxiously impossible to ignore by boldfacing the entire explanation and setting the font size to 200 (which is, for some stupid reason, a selectable preset).
Not even two minutes after sending that reply I get a response. And the response literally said "Anyway, I am here to say you did not miss the option." below a quote of my entire response. That was a reference to the thread she deleted. Somewhere amongst everything else I had asked if there was a button I couldn't see that enabled the deletion of custom sliders you didn't want on your profile. She had literally ignored the boldfaced font size 200 explanation of how shitty the code was in the RP chat, and the entire thread full of further information, to tell me what was essentially nothing more than "Yeah you didn't miss anything you can't delete them". I didn't reply. There was no point. I obnoxiously disclosed that her site was garbage in 200 point font and she couldn't even pay attention to THAT. Despite having taken place several years ago, a quick sanity check reveals that the same exact issues persist to this day. She has neglected to fix a single fucking thing I brought to her attention that day and it's been several years.
I have no idea how she's managed to keep the site running for so long. I recall hearing something about the server hardware being so old, and I mean early 2000s old, that it was destroyed in shipping a few years ago during the period she was switching hosts because of the pedophilia discussions and underage pornography (some of which I heard was fucking 3D rendered) she hosts on her website. It literally crumbled into dust while it was being shipped to the new host and there was an entire thread she wrote up about how it was running on a fucking core 2 duo with 8GB of DDR2 RAM. And to really cement into place the point that Marmalady made about how Eka's writing skills haven't improved, I found
this while searching for the old server sob story thread. She really hasn't improved
at all in over 15 years.
As a personal note, I really need to stop drinking at 3 in the morning and coming here to write novels on threads about shitty people and their shitty cults. Or maybe I don't, if anyone actually finds any of this information useful, but I don't have anything better to be doing at this hour anyway.
