What they are doing is a slow climb down, bringing their own polls in line to reality slowly, over time. This serves two purposes. First, it makes it look like a gradual loss rather than a massive nosedive. No Democrat wants Biden to have a nosedive, because that will create a much greater ripple effect of lost confidence for all Democrats. As is, the slow decline lets it be more manageable down ballot. Still very bad, but not catastrophically so. The second purpose from there is that it lets the more accurate polls look like outliers, helping to discredit them even as the actually bad polls crawl towards them.
