I cannot reply to @Meiwaku 's post, but allow me to summarize:
He's a control freak. He knows deep down he has no control in his life because he lacks the skills necessary to have true control over his environment. He pathologically attempts to impose his will on others because it satisfies his need for the control he fundamentally lacks. He cannot gain the skills he needs to achieve true control because giving up a little power now for greater self-actualization later is anathema, much the way a junkie will refuse to give up their drug of choice for the greater pleasures of a happy healthy life. His healthy urge to protect and provide is twisted into unhealthy patronizing of the mentally infirm because the mentally infirm are easier to please, and therefore control. His outward aggression toward the world is a manifestation of his anxiety around not having control.
