if you must know, it's not the show about the gay-ass gemrocks crying over their fat son, it's Gravity Falls, which is arguably more shit for its repetitive humor and one note characters

No no, Steven Universe is the specialgender gem shit, and even that show is nowhere near the level of preachy that Tumblr makes it out to be. Gravity Falls is wonderful because the creator is a fucking troll and regularly mocks his own fanbase. Also it has a central character who is an unabashed con-artist.
The last episode was friggin' great. A+ trolling, so much anguish from the Tumblr kiddies. Delicious.

A show like that wouldn't even get picked up by a network. Can you imagine what a network pitch for a Tumblr-inspired show would be like? I can't imagine any TV executive liking anything Tumblr would shit out.

Tumblr-level preachiness is like an unholy combination of hype and social justice buzzwords on crack cocaine. The aforementioned Gen Zed and the bear show (which I genuinely forgot) is a good example of what happens when someone attempts to try it--it's pretty much doomed to not even get one episode out the door. I think the biggest issue is that it requires no effort to perform tumblr-style hysterics and rants about the patriarchy while it takes actual effort to create things in general.

It's pretty gross how Tumblr fetishes gay men but I find the original image to be just as obnoxious. Maybe it might of had more weight if it was 10 to 15 years ago but by the 2010s, the overwhelming majority of teens and twentysomethings in the U.S were pro gay rights. It's like the most eye rolling combination of being a special snowflake and self righteousness only to fall flat on their faces because of their outdated message.

If I didn't know overgrown children on Tumblr better, I'd assume this was some kind of astroturfing like the "this show has secret occult meanings!" threads that the GF writers are rumored to post on /x/. But I'm not even surprised.

Apologies if I am not spot on with the finer points of history here but it's been a while - details are fuzzy. A popular Tumblr post was made featuring the characters, and people demanded more. The artist had her eyes light up with dollar signs. She was basically a con artist, setting up a Kickstarter for a cartoon (not a series, just a single cartoon) and asked for an exorbitant amount of money for it. Most of said money was barely going to the artists who were slated to work on the project, but instead to her. It all went up in flames, though. Probably for the best.
And then DashCon was... DashCon.
