What gets voters behind prosecutors is them being tough on crime. They need successful prosecutions to be seen as that. It makes quite the incentive for public prosecutors to go after whoever for whatever to get bodies behind bars. Add in bottomless funds and an insular system where the prosecution, judges, clerks, ect all work in the same building gets you things like Nifong and Binger.

Normally, but a lot of lefty prosecutors were voted in to be easy on leftists and just focus solely on ideological fights. The kenosha DA let hundreds of slam dunk cases in 2020 go because of politics
