Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

I'll also toss in that 2020 really was a fucking poison chalice type deal.

COVID was a happy accident that let the DNC wreck the economy without orchestrating a 1929 style global crash of the entire global economy. The down side is that the Democrats didn't fucking have the brains to bother to think long term; all they wanted was Trump out of office and vagueries that they could either use COVID to establish their fascist police state over the ruins of the nation or magically declare COVID over the second they took office and pray the damage they did could be reversed or (through their media cronies) silence all attempts to point out how shitty and soul destroying life under Biden's economy is.

In hindsight, letting Trump have a full two terms would have been the saner and smarter solution long term; eight years are enough time to let Trump take the fall for COVID crashing the economy with no survivors and allow the Democrats to waltz through the door in 2024 ala Obama with "hope and change" and enough time to find ways, as they did with Obama, to paper over how the crash destroyed so many lives. But Trump managed to fight off the crash best he could and ultimately, has the luck that the real bad shit didn't kick in until AFTER he was out of office complete with Biden and his crew making shit worse due to them being enamored with the fascist powers COVID gave them (power they threatened Trump over possessing even though Trump never used it). And given that they stole the election from Trump, the Democrats now fucking OWN the economic collapse and that's going to create havoc down the line in a scale and scope that wasn't seen since Hoover killed the GOP on the national level for two decades.
While I don't believe in the stupid 4D chess stuff, I do have to say that Trump must have dumped all his time and effort into Luck.

Going back to whether Virginia is worth celebrating vs the Repubs not being out of the woods:

Republicans struggle to react to a slow slide towards things, but the shit that went on to trigger this response wasn't a slow slide. Shit went from "Mostly Normal" to "Call this father a terrorist for complaining about the rape of his child by a trans kid" - Thats a mile and a half over the threshold.

Republicans will be out of the woods as long as the overreach continues to be this intensive - And Biden seems determined to do so.

Providing plenty of time for Trump to continue his takeover of the party into a more proactive rather than reactive party.

The clock is running out. Let's see this vote fail.

So do they even know what they’re voting for here? For the rule or the bill or two rules or two bills or what?
From what I have gathered they are voting on the rules for the social spending bill(week of 15th for actual vote on the bill) and then the actual bill for the bipartisan infrastructure bill. They then plan on voting on the social spending bill the week of the 15th. My guess is they are doing this because if this goes ass up and progressives show any kind of balls, they won't have to worry about dealing with the blowback for a week, which is why they want to ram this thing through tonight. Democrats only have a two seat majority in the House due to the special election the Republicans won, so losing any progressives will kill this.

The only issue is always with the bureaucracy, the entrenchment, and the continuing institutional capture. Even if the Biden regime is rendered a lame duck presidency after the midterms, they can still do a lot of damage in the government itself.

Even if the Republicans got back in, an entire term would likely be spent just fighting off sabotage from the bureaucracy and undoing all the damage that was done by the Democrats, if we follow Trump as a precedent.
