The reason the son is probably doing so well with staying strong and maintaining his boundaries is that grandpa is there modeling normalcy for him and supporting him as the cognizant rational adult male in his life who can pull rank on his degenerate dad. It is clear Brydon defers to his daddy, is likely a disappointment to dad and always has been but he’s dependent upon daddy, even now, which is why I’m fairly certain his daddy is loaded. I think this is like the Queen writing off Charles and focusing on William lol.
