It's a consumer culture; just whatever is being pushed as popular on social media and doesn't have any historic roots at all. I have no idea how rap became so popular. We are at a time where all of humanity's recorded music is available instantly, and you're gonna choose to listen to a nigger go ooga booga over the same repeating 4/4 beat with autotune? Rap makes me MOTI and in real life.

There is genuinely good rap out there, I wouldn't write off the whole genre.

That said, the best rap came out in the 90s and 2000s. The past decade or so has been pretty dire.

I honestly don't understand how there could be any enjoyment being in that crowd. I get it that people might not like the music I like. I've been to plenty of music festivals, mainly down the rock / punk side of things. Yet, even the bands I didn't like were nowhere near as dull and boring as that shit.

The video of the dead? guy being passed through the crowd with the guy on stage just going, "yeah, yeah, yeah." No attempt at singing. Some shitty autotune struggling. Just monotonous.

Nah it's just objectively bad music. I'm a huge fan of Rap, EDM, Trap, etc and I have been to hundreds of shows and the closest thing I can compare him to is Riff Raff, who is basically a joke person. It's actually amazing how bad Travis Scott's stuff is, I've never checked him out before.

Last time I was at a show and a person passed out, the act immediately killed the tunes and house lights came up until they got a thumbs up from the staff that they could continue. Compare this with Travis Scott who verbalizes that he sees an ambulance and then IMMEDIATELY jumps into the next track. He's not culpable, he's just a complete fucking idiot in every way.

Unlikely that this is what spells the end for trap, and it's arguable that his music is not trap. It is on the decline though.

If you are growing tired of trap like I am check out what's going on with guys like Moontricks, Dirtwire, Gone Gone Beyond. It's some bizarre bastard child of like bluegrass and trap music.

I completely agree with all of these statements and I listen to some of those songs. But I'd like to point out that these artists all sampled from earlier black artists in the background. That takes some appreciation of good Black culture.
