You hate crypto because of some arbitrary and ill defined definition of worthwhile energy use, regurgitated from the fecal palp of whatever left wing intuition you let crawl down your fucking throat."If we cannot stop literally all wastefulness in all processes throughout the world all at once, we cannot possibly tolerate mere criticism of (much less attempts to stop) one particular example of wastefulness. Also we can only ever focus on one thing at a time, therefore criticizing one thing must mean it's the most important thing and we must be completely ignoring everything else and dismissing it forever as irrelevant."
Crypto is a cult. Change my mind.
lolwut? "We're producing too much electricity so why not waste it on mining instead of, like, reducing power output and saving fuel and maintenance costs and reduce the total load on the grid?"
Power plants can (and do) adjust their production to adapt to current (and predicted) demand to save fuel whenever possible and reduce the strain on equipment and transmission lines. They don't just run "full throttle" 24/7 when they don't need to. Even nuclear reactors can throttle back when needed.
Besides, it sure doesn't seem like there's a "surplus" if they're literally running their own power plants to power their mining rigs.
I'm getting flashbacks to the halcyon days of /r/buttcoin from this conversation. What is it about crypto in particular that makes people switch off their brains like this?
I hate crypto because I'm stuck on a GTX 760 until my sources manage to obtain a better card for me that hasn't been mined to pieces.
We are not the same.
