When I read the post, I thought the kid's dad had married the MTF and was now deployed and leaving the son alone with him? In which case alert the mom, hoping she's still around.
Edit - thinking about it, if this interpretation is right, usually a kid would only be living with their trans step mom instead of their real mom (or at least having split custody) would be if their real mom was either dead, or a totally unfit parent for other reasons. Which would leave a kid pretty vulnerable. Sad.
