Then again to my knowledge they may not even know about the shooting much less the trial due to being uninformed idiots that are too busy cooming and consooming to read the news. This is one thing I don't think they fucked up on. Tbh its too late to do so now also I personally don't think you HAVE TO dock sheep as long as their butts are clean, which they seem to be. Their lambs before were meat lambs so if these are meat sheep it doesn't make sense to do unnecessary procedures if the sheep isn't suffering from flystrike etc. Theres plenty of quality shepherds who don't dock their lambs and everything turns out fine, its just a personal preference to husbandry.

I know this is probably laziness on their part as to why they didn't but it's actually a valid choice.

For those not up on sheep, docking lambs tails is done young, preferably at 2 weeks, using the same bander that's used for bloodless castration. The tail is not well developed yet and loss of the blood supply lets it just fall off. After 6 - 8 weeks, the ligaments and muscles are far too well developed for anything other than surgical removal.
And yes, removing the tails is not a bit of un-necessary cruelty. Since sheep have been bred to have thicker wool coats than their ancestors, the tails are effectively shit catchers and flys love laying their eggs in the shit caked wool. Leads to sheep wandering around with maggots eating their asses.

Editing to add, thanks to @Meiwaku post: The Tranch can probably get away with not docking, since they've very few sheep and a seemingly unending supply of volunteers with interest in animal asses to keep them cleaned. Most shepherds can't.

I think it's also worth noting that theres two types of sheep, hair sheep and wool sheep. Hair sheep are usually for meat and shed their coats so tails are kind of a non-issue on these breeds like Kathadin and Dorpers. Wool sheep like Merino whose coats will NEVER stop growing can have significant benefit from docking.

Im just happy because they stopped removing lambs from their moms (they will reject their babies if this happens so you're stuck with a bottle lamb)

I’m very excited for winter at the Tranch. Apparently Colorado right now has highs of mid 50s and lows of around 30 degrees and it’s only going to get much colder. I don’t know shit about fuck about alpaca or sheep but people ITT have been saying that they’ve sheared them far too late. I looked at google pics of alpaca and sheep in winter and the alpacas coats don’t appear too thick with full snow on the ground but the sheep are waay thicker than the sheep at the tranch. And I don’t think they’ll come close to have coats that big. They look like they are just now growing back some wool. They have less than a month to grow a thick winter coat. Not happening. I doubt their shed will keep them warm enough. They’re about to lose a huge amount of their herd to frost. I doubt they’ll report it on Twitter though.

Don't worry, the sheep have that weird lean to tarp shed that Jarrod built which I'm sure is plenty warm.

The Alpacas are too thin for winter honestly more so than just fiber. I think that is what will be hardest on their bodies.

Unfortunately, the animals freezing to death while the Tranchers get off scot-free (again) seems like the most likely outcome. Their alpaca have thin coats and are in poor condition with very little body fat, both issues caused by poor husbandry. At least they dug a pit ahead of time to bury them all in.

The big thing I am wondering about is how Paul dumping Sky and moving in with someone else will factor into land ownership and financial responsibility. One of the founders and property owners got tired of it and walked away. More than that, he's stopped taking estrogen so he can rawdog a pathological BPD drug addict. However, he's still going to be on the hook financially for the mortgage and other expenses as one of the owners. The Tranch is a money pit, an albatross. I'm wondering if he's going to try to get out of that stuff, too, and leave Sky solely responsible for the project he walked away from. The leadership is pitted against each other now because of Alyssa, and they're also pissing off their neighbors with more preposterous Shadow Earl stories.
