its not for the audience
It is. At first it was for coomers from imageboards and believe me (or if you don't, just go and take a look yourself) their ideas could easily turn it into another RapeLay. Alex turned down many of those, since if his game ever got a release(ha-ha), it would've ended up just like RapeLay or worse. Then edgy children from YouTube noticed this trash and throwing the edge away was equal to telling them to fuck off. Alex can tell million times that he hates children and wants mature audience, but if they leave him, what will he have? Nothing.
Of course, most of it came from him, but assuming that he is the only source of edge in his game is rather ignorant. Fans of this trash defended everything from pantyshots to adults creeping on students and asked for more brutal executions and the ability to sell just about everyone to yakuza. Alex, YS and their fans are in a perfect symbiosis.

EDIT:
Alex on the other hand, has received vocal criticism and refuses to change his tune..and its not because his audience is clamoring for his poorly written shit fest, but because thats what he likes.
Do I need to remind you, that only 11% of them didn't like that skirt inventory? Alex scraped that idea only because he had 0 clues how to put it into the game. The only other thing that they didn't like was fighting mode and he put it there anyway.

I love seeing the exceptions and changes Alex will make to keep his fetishes satisfied but also to keep his edgelord fanbase satisfied.

Also to the person (I forget who) who proposed idea of having Akademi be some in-between from highschool and college; it's not the greatest idea I've ever heard, but it sure as fuck is better than anything Alex can manage. Granted the bar isn't that high, but it's a compliment nonetheless.

I was a volunteer for Yanderedev on and off for a couple years. While I completely understood that it was volunteer work I’m still kinda pissed that almost none of my works were used in videos or in the game.

A few months back I was contacted by one of the mods that he was offering a paid job but I just could not do it. He’s BEYOND picky.

Sir, I am drawing something for your shitty game for FREE. If you’re going to be nit picky everything in something I’m drawing for you the least you could do is throw a couple dollars my way.

I don’t know, lol, it’s just a huge waste of time. I don’t see why people have “dreams” of being his volunteer.

Love yourself and work with people who want to pay you for your time and talent.

Agreed! He wants to be a "one man team" and make a big AAA game, yet wants all of these assets for free (and then won't credit people unless they beg on hands and knees for him to do so)
It's such bullshit, he acts like it's some huge high-profile thing

It's entitlement. Like he wants to be a one man team like Scott Cawthon then he better start learning how to make 3d models, what to look for in free audio sites, and how to make a small project big by putting small yet interesting details. Like he wants to be the Scott Cawthon but he also wants people to help him giving him voice acting, soundtrack, etc. For fucks sake we know thanks to a live by Bl00d that his composer Cameron had to prevent from becoming homeless thanks to the community while Alex shit on his ass raging or whatever he does. Like tbh I wish Alex was half the man Scott is because not only then we would have a product but possibly Cameron wouldn't have to worry from becoming homeless after creating an entire OST for free. Cameron can be a Alex simp but I hope one day he gets his head out of Alex ass and makes Alex get a new sound designer and makes him change the whole ost

I didn't say majority, I said he received very vocal criticism. Arguably any topic can have vocal criticism but the issue here is that there was/is a big deal made about it. All it takes is a few seconds of research to see that the feature was added/proposed, A number of people didn't like it and very much made that dislike known through polls, forum posts, direct requests, and like the retard he is he threw a bitch fit and practically shit himself over it. This game WAS originally for the coomers but he turned his back on them. At this point he receives more criticism than not. But' the only person he's trying to please is himself but also trick whatever audience he has left into paying for it. At this point, its like 30% coomers and 70% children.

This game WAS originally for the coomers but he turned his back on them.
While turning to the coomers and edgy kids from YT. It's contents didn't change after that, I'd say it got worse, since he left imageboards just 2.5 years into the development hell.

At this point he receives more criticism than not.
Nah, at this point people mostly don't care. Hell, even this thread is barely moving. And remaining sycophants will rather eat their own shit, than criticize him.

November 9 bug fixing build (archive)
Hello! I have a new build for you with a lot of changes in it!

To see a list of everything that is new or different in the latest build, scroll down past this short animation by C h E r r Y!

Socializing With Students
Previously, when talking to a student, you would automatically learn how they felt about two subjects: socializing and solitude. This immediately gave the player the information necessary to socialize and gossip with that student effectively, which defeated the entire purpose of implementing a system where the player is given 15 choices and is meant to manually learn how a student feels about each of those subjects.

So, as of now, the player will no longer automatically learn how a student feels about those two subjects just by talking to them. Instead, this is how it’s going to work:

  • The player will now learn how a student feels about socializing after socializing with them one time (successfully or unsuccessfully).
  • The player will now learn how a student feels about solitude after befriending that student.
(Think you’re going to be annoyed by this change? Here’s a hint: All Cooking Club members love Cooking, all Drama Club students love Drama, etc. This should give you some help.)

Fixes and Changes
  • Previously, the the “Gossip” option would only become unavailable after the player had performed a successful gossip interaction. This allowed the player to gossip repeatedly until they got it right. From now on, the “Gossip” option will become unavailable after the player has used it once, regardless of whether or not they failed or succeeded.
  • Fixed bug that caused Ritsuko (the “rich girl” rival who sleeps at the school pool) to spawn a steam cloud and change into a swimsuit when meeting with her suitor, if a meeting with her suitor was arranged before she had an opportunity to change into a swimsuit near the beginning of the day.
  • Teachers in 1980s Mode now make calls from retro-looking cell phones modeled after actual cell phones that really existed in 1989, instead of using modern-looking cell phones. (The headmaster requested the latest in portable telephone technology from Saikou Corp.)
  • Students who are distracted by a dropped object while eating will now set their bento down while investigating the dropped object, allowing you to poison their bento while they are investigating something suspicious.
  • Fixed bug that allowed the player to dispose of Sumire’s corpse with a woodchipper or vat of acid during the tutorial, breaking the intended sequence and softlocking the game.
  • It’s no longer possible to start the Alphabet Killer Challenge on any day other than Week 1 Day 1. Starting the challenge on any other day could lead to bugs.
  • Fixed bug that prevented any student in 1980s Mode from changing their animations or any aspect of their daily routine after being marked for bullying.
  • Fixed bug that caused the delinquent combat minigame to glitch out if it began while Yandere-chan was performing the “sneak panty shot” animation.
  • The amount of money that the player can earn from delivering certain kidnapped prisoners to the Yakuza was way too high, and it has been reduced.
  • Fixed bug that would cause the player to fail the Alphabet Killer Challenge if they disposed of the body of one of the Art Club members.
  • Fixed bug that prevented a rival from performing a “search for lost book” action after the player had stolen the book that she borrowed.
  • Fixed bug that would cause the game to softlock if the player grabbed an item off of the ground before stabbing Sumire in the tutorial.
  • Fixed bug that would prevent the player from being able to pick up a garbage bag box if it was on the ground in a specific rotation.
  • Fixed bug that made it impossible to talk to the Newspaper Club President about his club on a day when School Atmosphere was low.
  • Fixed bug that allowed a student running to a toilet to vomit to be distracted by the player’s behavior.
  • Fixed bug that allowed the player to enter the delinquent combat minigame with Yandere Vision active.
  • Delinquents no longer react if they see a weapon dropped on the ground. They simply don’t care.
  • Fixed bug that made the wrong shopkeeper portrait display in the Hair Salon in 202X.
  • Fixed bug in the Alphabet Killer Challenge that put one student on the list twice.

November 10 bug fixing build (archive)
I uploaded a bug-fixing build yesterday; I just never wrote a blog post about it! So, here it is!

Today is the 1-month anniversary of 1980s Mode! The past month has been extremely educational; I learned a lot about how the game needs to improve before the 10 main rivals are implemented, and making those improvements will be my next priority. I still have a list of bugs to fix, though, so you’ll see me release a few more bug-fixing builds before I begin focusing exclusively on improvements.

Before I start telling you about the fixes and changes in the latest build, I’d like to mention that I’ve updated the Characters page of the official website. Twelve new characters from 1980s Mode have been added to the site – the 10 rivals of 1980s Mode, the Senpai of 1980s Mode, and the counselor of 1980s Mode. Also, the Yakuza’s artwork has been updated, new artwork has been added to Sumire’s profile, and Sumire’s profile has been re-written. (If you don’t see all the new additions when you visit the page, wait an hour and then return. The cache doesn’t update instantly.)

Okay! With all of that news out of the way, it’s time to list all of the fixes and changes in the latest build. To see that, scroll down past this gorgeous artwork of Ryoba by yikichan!

Fixes and Changes
  • There was a bug that would cause students to pretend Yandere-chan didn’t exist if the student was hiding in a classroom after discovering a blood stain somewhere at school. This bug had been fixed; students will now react properly to Yandere-chan while they are hiding in their classrooms. (Does this invalidate some Genocide Ending strategies?)
  • Now 1980s Mode has been out for a month and everyone has had a chance to play it “properly”, I have now enabled the Extras menu at the 1980s Mode title screen, allowing people to access debug commands and easter eggs while playing 1980s Mode.
  • Fixed bug that would cause Cooking Club members to only consider Student Council members as valid targets to give food to, which was causing them to freeze in place and interfere with the completion of the Alphabet Killer Challenge.
  • Fixed bug that would prevent Ryoba from being able to return to her default idle animation after changing her Persona using a mirror.
  • Fixed bug that caused the game to incorrectly identify some “ARRESTED” game overs as “HEARTBROKEN” game overs.
  • Replaced textures for certain posters on walls that contained corny 4th-wall-breaking jokes.
  • Fixed bug that caused cell phones in 1980s Mode and 202X to be the wrong size.
  • Ryoba now uses the correct idle animation and walk animation when in the town.
  • Ryoba now uses the correct idle animation when inside of her room.
  • It is now possible to giggle while crouching or crawling.

We reached the one month anniversary of 1980s mode bug fixing builds.

Decided to check out the the character profile update for a lark, and most of the new ones just have, like, 3-4 sentences.

Except for the 10th rival, who has a whole ass essay, what the fuck

November 12 bug fixing build (archive)
There is a frustrating bug within the Unity editor that really slows down my progress a lot. I want to try upgrading the game from Unity 2019 to Unity 2020 to see if the bug has been fixed in the latest version of Unity. However, this would be pretty risky, because if there is anything in the game’s code that is incompatible with Unity 2020, I’ll have to spend a lot of time refactoring scripts and fixing bugs until the game is finally able to run again.

Upgrading to Unity 2020 might take a few hours, or it might take a few days…but, either way, before attempting the upgrade, I wanted to finish the stuff I was working on, and upload a new build. So, here it is!

To see a list of everything that is fixed or changed in the latest build, scroll past this video of Yandere Simulator running on a 1974 television set by Per Mateo!

Before I uploaded the 1980s Mode announcement trailer to YouTube, I wanted to put the trailer onto a VHS tape, put it into a VCR, film the trailer playing on an 1980s TV set, and then upload my recording of the trailer playing on the TV.

It would have been a time-consuming process, so I ultimately decided against doing it…that’s why I think it’s really cool to see Yandere Sim playing on a 1974 TV; it’s pretty close to the idea I had for the 1980s Mode trailer!

Fixes and Changes
  • Previously, the police would be called if the player attended class while a corpse concealed inside of a garbage bag was at school. This has been adjusted; now the player can attend class with a corpse present at school, as long as that corpse is inside of a garbage bag.
  • In a previous build, I updated the amount of money that the Yakuza pays you for kidnapped victims, but I didn’t update the price labels in his menu. The price labels have now been updated to reflect how much money you actually get from him.
  • From now on, whenever a suitor attempts to approach a rival but her corpse has been concealed / disposed of, the suitor will look around in a confused fashion, leave, and not look for the rival for the rest of the day.
  • You can now use Persona Mirrors to restore Ryoba’s original “swaying from side to side” idle animation, in case you prefer it over her new idle animation.
  • The player is no longer allowed to pick up the radio in 1980s Mode, because using the radio in certain ways during the tutorial could result in bugs.
  • Fixed bug that would cause male students in 1980s Mode to use the incorrect indoor/outdoor shoes.
  • Fixed bug that caused hairstyle #13 to be invisible in the Senpai Creation screen.
  • Fixed bug that caused the Senpai Creation screen to display outdated hairstyles.
  • The NPCs in the town are now different between 1989 and 202X.
  • Updated the 1980s Mode rival portraits.
I think he should've upgraded Unity a long time ago.

Quite literally

Not to mention apparently solving a cipher means you're a detective?
Cipher-cracking is an entirely different beast from detective work. Ciphers are usually pattern/math central, crime scene investigation is incredibly different. Who tf gives a random highschooler access to crime scenes based on a cipher?

First Unity 2020 build (archive)
Hello!

I just finished upgrading the game from Unity 2019 to Unity 2020!

Unity 2019 had a really annoying bug – if I updated any scripts while the game was running, the editor would crash. This meant that I had to shut off the game every time I wanted to update a script. God, that was insufferable! Fortunately, I’ve been able to confirm that the crash bug is indeed fixed in Unity 2020, which means that it’ll be much more convenient to work on the game from now on.

Whenever updating the game engine, there is always a possibility that some new bugs may be created. I played through the game twice (once in 1989 and once in 202X) and didn’t find any new bugs, but maybe if you search thoroughly, you might find something that I missed. Please report any new bugs that popped up in this build!

There is a possibility that Unity 2020 may contain numerous optimizations that result in better performance than Unity 2019. In other words, I’m saying that you might get a better framerate now that the game is running on Unity 2020! I’m really curious to know if this is the case!

If you’d like to confirm whether or not the framerate has improved, I’ll provide a link to the previous build of the game so that you can compare the current framerate with yesterday’s framerate: https://github.com/awoglet/YanSimDL/releases/download/archive/ys_2021_11_12.zip

Nothing changed in the latest build except for the jump to 2020, so you don’t need to feel pressured to download the latest build unless you’re curious to check for framerate improvements or any new bugs that may have appeared.

That’s all now for now! Thank you for following the development of…

…ugh! It just doesn’t feel right to end a blog post without showing off a cool fan creation. Here’s one for today – a really cool music video by Eisjon Noaj!

Okay! With that out of the way, thank you for following the development of Yandere Simulator!
He actually did it.

Who tf gives a random highschooler access to crime scenes based on a cipher?
Someone who thinks that anime is real.

Good. Every time he moved this stitched together corpse of a game to the new version of Unity, it resulted in even more bugs.

Speaking of which, I had some little project, but I am really tired of anything Alex related - I have a list of all bug fixes made before the 80s mode. Is there anyone brave enough to take a look?

The new hair build (archive)
Usually, I will refer to an update as either a “Bug-Fixing” build, or a “Quality-of-Life Improvement” build. The latest update contains 7 bug fixes and 10 QoL improvements, but more importantly than that, this build changes something that hasn’t changed in over seven years: the protagonist’s appearance!

From now on, Yandere-chan will use a new hairstyle. Check it out:

Why is it changing? Three main reasons:

  1. I think the new model looks a lot better.
  2. Her previous hair model was purchased from a game asset store. Because she was using a hair model that absolutely anyone could purchase and use, Ayano always felt like a “retextured store asset” instead of feeling like a unique character. Having an original hair model helps her feel like a character with distinct identity, rather than giving the impression of a model plucked from a store one day.
  3. The majority of the official artwork that has been created for Yandere Simulator over the past few years has depicted Ayano’s hair with a very specific length and shape that was subtly – yet significantly – different from the design of her in-game model. With this update, her in-game hair model is now consistent with the way that most of the game’s official artwork is drawn, which helps the character feel like she has one cohesive design, instead of separate 3D and 2D designs.
  4. I’ve been staring at the same model for over seven years, and I need to see something change or else I’m going to go insane.
At first, it was a little difficult to adjust to seeing the new model in-game – it was almost surreal to see the main character’s appearance change after seven years of remaining the same – but I became accustomed to it very quickly. After letting it “sink in” for a bit, it has started to feel “right” – even more right than the previous hair – and now I distinctly feel that I prefer it this way.

As mentioned above, Ayano’s hair isn’t the only thing that changed in the latest build. Click “Continue Reading” to learn what else has changed, and also see a cool render of New Ayano!

Fixes and Changes
  • Yandere-chan will now drop whatever she is holding in her hands before performing the “add poison to bento” animation (because it’s weird to do that animation with something already in her hands).
  • Fixed bug that would cause the player to lose the ability to interact with the garbage bag box in the tutorial if it was dropped and landed upside-down.
  • Fixed bug that prevented the “Main Menu” option from working on the game over screen if the player got a game over in the stalker’s house or the asylum.
  • Fixed bug that would cause a teacher to glitch out if the player activated a radio next to a teacher that was teaching class, and then attended class.
  • Adjusted the “drug addict in asylum” voice lines to all be the same length, instead of having drastically different lengths.
  • Fixed bug that prevented the player’s cursor from being locked to the game window while inside of the protagonist’s home.
  • Fixed bug that caused a club leader’s armband to remain visible after their corpse had been hidden with a garbage bag.
  • Edited the pamphlets around the school that featured smartphones, since they wouldn’t have applied in 1989.
  • Fixed bug that caused bullying graffiti to be visible on a student’s desk during the 1980s Mode tutorial.
  • “Hair down, no ponytail” is now one of Ayano’s hair options when debug commands are enabled.
  • The microphone in the Light Music Club in 1989 now looks different than it does in 202X.
  • Fixed typo in the 1989 VHS Filter settings menu (“Aberration” was misspelled).
  • The gym uniforms in 1980s Mode now look dfiferent from the ones in 202X.
  • Updated the hairstyle of Himari (202X gardening club girl).
  • Updated Ayano’s appearance for the first time in 7 years.
  • Added many more stocking options to the Pose Mode menu.
  • Updated Witness-chan’s hair. She’s very pretty now!
I hope that you like Ayano’s new hairstyle! To mark the occasion, here’s a render of her new hair, re-creating the pose from the very first piece of promotional artwork for Yandere Simulator that was ever created!

New hair model after 7 years? *slow claps*
