They did not, normally they are handed one copy of the instructions and the jury foreman is the one to have it.

It's something young men and men in general were bred to value, I think the fact that the modern world is so strange is why a lot of people like Kyle. It's an animal instinct combined with that people can easily rationalize his self-defense.
