I watched the video after it with Rackets where he said he wanted to use the team to lessen Richards et als roles.

And so far he has taken credit for every smart thing they've done.

When I said being at the centre of things I was not specifically referring to trail. Rather he'd be the one directing everything.

If his relationship with Jones was damaging to Kyle he would not have been brought on to help in the court of public opinion. Because if Jones is damaging the last thing you want helping your public image is people connected to him.

NYT just made it official. After the enforcement of the Alien and Sedition Act by the Adams administration to attack his political enemies like Jefferson was so disastrously unpopular that it literally destroyed the Federalist Party, nobody ever really tried that again except in times of (real and declared) war, when constitutional rights, shall we say, get treated rather differently.

It was already nakedly obvious that talking shit about politicians, even absolute bullshit, was protected. And when the Federalists under Adams tried to stop that by jailing people for talking shit about them, not only didn't it shut them up, but they talked even more shit from behind bars.

The Anti-Federalists swept the elections and the Federalists never recovered.

Note, what were called the Anti-Federalists under Jefferson were a lot closer to current judicial conservatives like the Federalist Society.

And a major difference then is newspapers were often openly partisan without any pretense of objectivity. People were a lot more hands-on, too, if the local Fed/Anti-Fed newspaper talked too much shit, a mob would show up and smash their printing press. It was just the government that was forbidden from doing that.

There will always be a juror that slips by during selection, a lawyer only gets so many free voir dires (one where he can dismiss a potential juror without stating why). Its essential that you get jurors sympathetic to your client or at least truly impartial ones.
