Community Munchausen's by Internet (Malingerers, Munchies, Spoonies, etc) - Feigning Illnesses for Attention

Was just rummaging around in my memes folder and found this from last year when i was active on reddit.

Question: are wheelchairs for chronic fatigue necessary? I get that chronic fatigue can fucking suck but I’ve come across many young white women on Instagram who use power chairs for their chronic fatigue, usually britbongs and often with a decent online following/brand deals. I’m used to seeing power chairs for EDS (insert eye roll here) but chronic fatigue? Really? Super interested to know more.
Whew this is a subject but no, it’s not necessary (in most cases).
They just want to roll around like the frailest power chair princess to get pity instead of pacing themselves and using something like a rollator.
Canes are actually pretty active to use so I can see why that wouldn’t be ideal, but a rollator makes it easy to move and they can sit on the seat to take a break when they get tired, plus they get the added benefit of not experiencing minor atrophy and making their body stay at least a little active.

Recently I came across several persons on tik tok, who claimed to be disabled because of Hashimoto. One even claimed to have chronic fatigue because if that and being unable to do physical activities, cause it would "cause her hashimoto to flare up". I mean, just take your fucking meds and live happily?
And ofc every one of them is autistic or "neurodivergent". 🤦‍♂️
Have you seen the girl with the usual trifecta (gastroparesis, Ehlers Danlos, POTS) who is trying to get on Hospice and do VSED (voluntary stopping eating & drinking)? This chick was posting normal spoonie shit until she got an Addison's diagnosis and then within 5 days of this diagnosis, all of her TikToks became her lying in a hospital bed talking about how she wants to die. It's like actually insane. She's only 24!!!

Not so hopeful if she's committing suicide and forcing medical professionals to go along with it. Something very off about this one. I predict hysterics for more opiates then possibly a chimpout.

The wheelchair thing goes to why munchies hate physio. Wheelchairs for temporary events are common and fine -- you can't get across the airport fast enough, you are at an amusement park all day.

Using a custom wheelchair is a last resort and something you should only do after a full evaulation by PT and probaby OT. The PT/OT teams prescribe the assistative devices you need. They also help making sure that they're fitted properly and you use them correctly, because you can do damage using them wrong. They have a heavy bias against anything that discourages movement. People in rehab now are movement fanatics. Oh, you just had a heart transplant? Okay, how about we get you up and walking? And if you can't walk, you can sit up! And then sit up again! Every hour! That's your new goal!

They're not trying to be jerks, but deconditioning happens ridiculously fast and they know you'll live longer and heal better if they can get you as mobile as possible. Physio is hard work. They're making sure you don't make your injury worse, but they have you doing things that are tiring and/or uncomfortable, and then you get homework to do the same things at home. I think physios are wildly underappreciated because I've seen it work magic in family members, but they expect you to work at it and their orientation is to get you doing as much as you can yourself. Especially if you're a 25-year-old with many years ahead of you and general good health and not an 85-year-old with extensive oesteoperosis and a variety of other age-related health issues nd you absoutely cannot fall.

Munchies are very into a "rest cure" idea that is more Victorian than modern. And they really like the sick role and intend to inhabit it forever.

In case anyone was wondering how hygienic munchies are while claiming to be immunocompromised, Victoria has a weeping infection in her bellybutton. She attributes this to an incision from abdominal surgery, even though any teeny tiny laparoscopic incision through the bellybutton she got has had MORE than enough time to heal, if she even had surgery at all. So no, it’s not from surgery. She’s just gross.

A wild Sydney Going appears! Kida is on the other side of her.

I’ve been ignoring the thread because I got bored of these girls but running into multiple of them this week while being dragged kicking and screaming to Disney by my family has renewed my interest.

Edit: Better proof it’s her because I’m a brazen piece of shit

I hadn't, but now I scrolled her tik tok. But did she really got Addison's, or is she making shit up to get into hospice?

Maybe I'm shouting into the void, but how exactly would/could an Addison's diagnosis even qualify a person for Hospice care? I know it varies a bit, but rudimentary googling brought up this list of criterion:

In addition, the same site also maps out the disease-specific criteria, as well as methods of coverage.1637117941997.png
Nowhere on the list is adrenal issues. Addison's, according to my layman's understanding (in addition to googling), is an adrenal issue. You take the missing cortisol or whatever and monitor for changes and dosage needs and that's that. Watch out for crises and treat and you're otherwise managed. Am I missing something?

I just came here to post about her...

I saw this video and what stuck out to me was her emphasis on "this can last 3-21 days" "you can't get food but you can get painkillers" "it's not permanent and you can stop when you want"

That's a little bit paraphrased but not really. I feel like she's just outlining how to get 3 weeks of drugs and all the attention when you decide to be such a brave girl and keep living.

(I can't figure out how to actually link to her TikTok but here's the video I'm referring to)

Nope.

It's a bitch because it's always going to be with you, and there's the whole sick day protocol thing where if you get ill or stressed you need to up your corticosteroid dose temporarily but it's not a life-ending condition. Wear a med-alert bracelet so ED personnel know to hook you up with more if you're found down (oh God please do this because otherwise an adrenal crisis presents like septic shock most of the time.)

Hard to manage but it's manageable.

Addison's can also be faked but I don't think any of them are smart enough to realize how

Addison's shouldn't be an issue as long as it's managed. Just one of those miracles of modern medicine. Yes, you're always going to have to be diligent about your medical care and medication, but you can live a very full life. Addison's if you don't know you have it is very dangerous of course.

Thanks for clarifying. I was struggling to piece together just how Addison's could possibly be a debilitating disease. It seems (in an apples to oranges way) similar to T1 Diabetes, in that you take what's missing and adjust accordingly. It seems that being T1 is more difficult (because of the glucose component), but people who are diabetic live full lives if everything is managed well. Addison's seems like another problem involving a garbage hormone supply issue. You compensate, monitor, react accordingly, and live your life. You don't make yourself a Hospice patient. Jesusssss.

Nah, I agree with you. My mistake.
And I still don't understand how can she apply for Hospice care, because she doesn't meet the criteria.
Even in get hospital vids she looks perfectly healthy, even with her trying hard to act sick.

She claims she wants to die with dignity instead of facing the many surgeries it would require for her to somehow stay alive with EDS. I think she just wants 3 weeks of all you can eat opiates.

Is this diagnosis THAT new?

Her prospective date of starting the starving to death is thanksgiving she says. How thoughtful.

I'd probably kill myself if I had gastroparesis. The drugs to treat it are shit: reglan and zofran. Reglan might be the worst drug in existence with black box warnings on suicidal ideation and tardive dyskinesis - which, once it happens, might not wear off ever. You can only take it for 12 weeks max - which of course isn't useful if you have gastroparesis.

So if she's taking reglan it might be that the drug is just trying to kill her. The rest of it is BS of course.

Zofran is some kind of wonder drug, but you will never shit again.

Zofran is a “wonder drug” that doesn’t take away nausea, gives some ppl horrific headaches, and can take your hearing FOREVER if they push it too fast via IV.

So much fucking wonder.

I’d rather puke my guts out,

If she really wanted to die she could just, y'know, stop taking her meds.
I thought the same thing regarding addisons. Why not forgo the steroids and eating and drinking?

Such eating disordered behavior to start on Thanksgiving.

What the fuck?

What a way to ruin the Holidays for her family for the years to come.
